Ottawa: Gets off easy here. In the offseason Montreal got a 1st round pick for taking on 1 year of Sean Monahan, here Ottawa only had to trade a 2nd for 2 YEARS of a terrible player.
Chicago: Gets picks for taking on salary. I think they could've gotten more, but good picks are good picks.

That may announce another trade for OTT, for Zaitsev to leave at this point. Good thing for Chi to acquire draft picks and Zaitsev helps them to reach cap floor next season. Depending on OTT next move that could be a good deal for them

With Johnson and Zaitsev, the Blackhawks now need Myers, Gudbranson, Ristolanien and Vlasic to complete the infinity gauntlet of bad defenseman.

Yeah, basically the exact deal Sens fans have been offering for like a year, that we've been told was "way too cheap".

I don't know if this is a precursor to another move for Ottawa, but to be blunt, removing Zaitsev will have about as big of an impact as any Dman they could bring in. Now get Watson and Gambrell gone next to continue addition by subtraction.

With all those salary augmentations the Sens are gonna have this summer, they had to do this move. Dorion's next months are gonna be hella busy.

Ottawa is definitely going to make another move ( Chych, Meier, etc ??? ). Good deal for both, Ottawa clears cap, Chicago gets some assets

This is just such a weird trade. Value wise I think the Sens win, but it’s just a little weird to see them dump salary when they’re not in place to make the playoffs.

The pick will be in the 40s. It's a solid pick. And since Hawks don't plan to be good next year, why not? He could also be bought out for $2.8M next season and only $800k the next. Not bad.

Ottawa wins, you never want dump a player due to salary but Kyle Davidsson just does not get it.

First he lets Toronto off too easy with Mrazek, and now Ottawa with Zaitsev, it's nice that he gains an extra 23' 2nd but he's gotta open his eyes and manipulate the market because otherwise the markets gonna manipulate him.

It's a win for Ottawa because they give up minimal assets for getting rid of a player that literally made them worse and had too high of cap hit. This now gives them the flexibility to make a move for next year filling there other holes,
