It's because it was signed during the season.

Great contract. Might bite them at the end of it though

Don't mind that Domi is gone. With the way we are playing, it was the right move and Domi is struggling with Columbus. MB continues to win!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Both teams decline?
As much as I'd love the Caufield/Zegras bromance, it doesn't really make sense for the Ducks to move a high pick. If things continue as they've been going, we'll be a high percentage lotto team.</div></div>
Probably agree. People will argue the Habs should accept this because it's likely to be a top 10 pick, but I'd rather keep what we have.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>It brings him at 35yo. His ethics, faceoffs skills and defensive game wont go down with age, so Im ok with it. Once again, this is my absolute maximum, not the ideal situation.</div></div>
I think he really wants the role as 1C and that's what's holding him up. I'd have no problem paying like 6x5 because of his value to the team.

Don't see Montreal trading Caufield for Anaheim's 1st. This years draft is a weak draft so there's no point in risking it. There isn't a player similar to him in this draft.

Those are actually better than what I was expecting but you also have to remember that Byron played most of the season with an injury (hence the 29 games played) and it turns out Lucic was actually the better player last year so you've bested me.

That his advanced analytics say he's better than just an overpaid bottom 6pker. He plays 14 minutes a night and his analytics say he should play more. He's a 4th liner because Montreal has so much depth.

because I believe Suzuki will be the better player and Montreal has more control over him. PLD has a bad attitude and the only positive is he's french, but nobody gives a **** about that

Montreal isn't doing PLD for Suzuki straight up. Stop. Also Suzuki would be the 1st line center here, not Domi

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>Like I said, advanced stats don’t always tell the full story. There are so many outliers. These same stats used to say Jake Gardiner was amazing defensively yet I bet any leafs fan could say otherwise.
For example; looking at Dumos numbers last year, his GA/60 was bad sure, but his XGA/60, SA/60, CA/60, FA/60, and HDCA/60 were all great. His on ice save percentage though was dreadful. Which leads me to believe that he was the victim of very bad goaltending and it wasn’t his actual play that caused the bad GA/60. You need to look at these stats with more context.</div></div>
So even if all of this is true, it doesn't mean Montreal should be trading a 1st round pick for a player of his caliber. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>Like I said, advanced stats don’t always tell the full story. Maybe even if all of this were true, I don't see Montreal trading a 1st round pick for him when our LHD is already so stacked.

I don't know what you are playing, but that 1st line would likely be the best line in the NHL, there's potential here, you just have to make some good trades

He doesn't produce points and his advanced stats aren't the greatest. What makes him a top pairing caliber defender? He averages 21 Minutes a night which is decent, but his bad advanced stats tell me he shouldn't be playing that many.

That defense and goaltending is suspect. Unless they made some trades, I don't see them making the playoffs.

Taking on another 5 Million in cap space. Where do we play him? who moves down? There simply isn't room here unless we trade Danault and Danault shouldn't be traded.
