I've been in distaste for a while about the idea of taking on DeSmith but I think that this scenario is far better than trading a 4th for Casey. Dumping Pearson's cap for below market value and filling a hole in the roster at this cost isn't terrible for Vancouver, and also is a forward notion for the Habs. Fair deal.

Pearson isn't LTIR, he's been skating and is cleared to play. This trade doesn't happen if he was to ride LTIR with complete confidence.

Pearson was activated from LTIR not too long ago and can't go back on it until he hurts himself. Trade's really an expensive depth piece for a cheap backup, with a pick to bridge the salaries. Pretty fair deal.

Habs lose a bit, 4th or 5th for DeSmith and 4th or 3rd to dump Pearson. MTL could've gotten another 5th. Not a major loss, but VAN should be happy for sure

DeSmith's trade value is probably a 6th round pick and Vancouver needs a quality backup in net.

Given that Pearson was activated from LTIR, that means Montreal assumes his cap hit for the start of the season.

So, the 3rd round pick is what pays for dumping Pearson.

Tanner is another TDL candidate guy. That third retention slot is 100% being used this year.

He was traded because he can't be put on LTIR....

Then we send Pearson to the AHL where he cost 2.1 Million. 3rd round pick for 300k is great, especially considering DeSmith was waiver bound if we didn't trade him.

Then send him to Laval where he cost 2.1 Million.

It's not ideal but at least we're cap compliant and got rid of an excess winger. Fair deal in my eyes

Great for Habs, they just keep making it more clear that they won the EK65 trade.

Kind of dont understand this move as now MTL takes another spot away from a youngster and takes on more cap

We're really loading up for the 2025 draft. Two 1sts (probably), two 2nds, two 3rds, and two 4ths (probably).

I guess 2025 is the year we want to try and win? Will give us plenty of trade pieces.

It'd probably be best for him to start in the AHL and see how he does there

Worse case he becomes a TD piece.

Deal is more than fair but i gotta say, KH is killing it in the asset management category lately.

Very fair deal, I like it for both sides which I rarely say, VAN gets a decent backup and gets rid of some cap for a 3rd

MTL gets a 3rd for a piece they didn’t need.
