As bas as RyJO was last year, it doesn't quite makes sense to give him away for free like this. Either ownership said cut salary at all costs or Trotz plans on using that cap space in other ways.

Doesn't make much sense. You would think NSH could have gotten more espacially trading him away to a division rival.

If this is the way the new regime in Nashville is going to run, that town best get ready for an era of darkness. How stupid is this??? And to a division rival, no less. The rest of the Central/NHL should sue Nashville for collusion. Idiots.

I really want Johansen as our 2C but would not have dared hope for this deal. What a win; and we likely get to keep Toews beyond this year too..

RyJo centering a line of Newhook and Rantanen will be pretty effective as a 2nd line.

3rd line center can now be addressed in free agency fairly cheaply.

Oh, they are not just giving him away for free. They are paying 2x4 to give him to Colorado. It boggles the mind.

I would love to hear the rationale of the few people who think Nashville won any part of this deal. I don;t even need to reply, I just want to know how they arrived at that view.

Having your top 2 centers locked up for 10 Million is so unfair. Nashville handing their division rival a core player.

I know Avs needed a 2c but Johansson really

Better hope they get the 2022 version as idk feel they gonna be looking for another 2c soon.

I would have traded for Lindholm. Would have costed a bunch but that's the 2c they need

But let's see

Johansen isn't the player he once was. And the avs are a pretty fast team. Ryjo has slowed down quite a bit. So I'm hoping he can keep up. On the otherside he's big at 6'3" 218. And he's still quite good on the draw. Avs got a decent player who two years ago got 60 points. For free. I like it

Johansen isn't the ideal get for sure. But he still has some value. Two years ago had 60 points. And we got him for free. Avs need depth scoring so it's not all bad. Basically Johansen > Galchenyuk. And Johansen at 4 mill isn't terrible.

He's scoring at the equivalent to a 3c and he's getting older. At this point value as 2c ain't there unless he plays like 2022 version. He's not what they really needed. Good to get a guy cheap but if he starts slowing down more than in NSH god help them

And Johanson at 4mill is pretty bad when u consider Lindholm may be out of CGY and cost 800k more. Would have costed more but that guy was the missing piece for AVS

Either way seems finding a 2c isn't that easy as people thought lul

Someone has to explain this trade from Nashville's POV. After trading a guy making 8 million for next two years, they pick up half his contract, get a player back who is an UFA that you absolutely don't want to sign and get no draft picks.

How does Nashville benefit from this trade?

They get rid of $4 million cap, they were planning on buying him out anyway, they were concerned about his recovery from injury, and they gave up nothing to move said $4 million.

Nashville is just confusing to me. Are they trying to contend? Rebuild? What’s the direction?

Weird that they didn’t get anything despite taking on that much retention, but then again that might’ve been required just to move off of that contract, and 4M in cap space is 4M in cap space.

Preds:
I'm thinking they are likely to pull a bold draft move(s) as host to the festivities...

Trotz's first move is giving away his 1C retained to a divisional rival for nothing? Rebuilding much?

Galchenyuk doesn't even have a contract and would be placed on waivers if he did.

His signing rights are worthless.

This trade comes down to three things.

1. Nashville adds 4 million in dead cap for the next two years.

2. Nashville will pay half of Johansen's salary, so he can play for Colorado.

3. At a cap hit of 4 million for the next two years, Johansen has positive trade value for Colorado.

This is a fleecing.

Colorado wins the trade.

If the options were this or a buyout, this is better for Nashville.

My take is that the RyJo trade is equally bad for both teams.
Both teams given the privilege to set 4m of cap on fire for the next two years.
Preds are burning another retention slot here their L may be a little larger than the Avs.

I don't like this for Colorado either though, RyJo is over the hill and I think there should've been better options available to them to try at center (Backlund, Scheifele, Yegor, Rodriguez, Mittelstadt etc).
This move shows a lack of ambition from Colorado's management in my view.

Joey is on the downhill in his career imo, I don't think he is truly a 3C anymore but 4M for a 40 Point 3C is pretty fair and you got him for free essentially, I think COL sorta missed the mark as I think they could've aimed their horizons a little higher for a better player but value wise this is definitely fine.

Nashville - C-
I don't it's completely awful because Nashville gets the extra cap space and I have too assume they have a plan with that cap space but who knows. I think they could've also just waited for his contract to end/value rebound potentially.

This move is so confusing as a Nashville fan. I knew ryjo was basically gone when Trotz was talking about his skating & the team needing to be faster. However, our biggest hole right now is at Center. The retention isn’t a surprise, I wish it was less than half but 4m is still a good amount of open space. Believe that gives the preds 20m or so. I really think Debrincat ends up in Nashville this week & they make a play for a center in trade or FA.

There has bin rumblings that Nashville may buy out Duchenne or Johanson. With a buyout they would have had a 2.667 Mill cap hit over four years, or 2.667 million more then a buyout (10.667). Being able to get out of the contract without attaching a sweetener is a win for Nashville. They don't need the cap space this year but want the extra space in year free avoiding a buyout gets them.

I'm in the camp that said fair trade. COL gets a veteran center that can help control possession. He may not be a #2C anymore, but if COL has some speedy wingers at his sides...he can play the 3rd line center role. NSH is moving on. Cody Glass ended their season as the #1C. They're going to bring up a few Admirals. Better to bite the cap now if you're re-tooling.

I disagree.

1. Nashville would have had 2.666 million in dead cap from buying out RoJo versus 4 million from retaining his salary.

2. Nashville gave the decision-making power over buying out RoJo to Colorado.

3. I highly doubt Colorado will decide to buy out RoJo.
