Projected Opening Night Roster
As nice as it would be to have Kemell NHL ready this season, my guess is he starts in the minors. Kiefer Sherwood had a good end of last season, and I could see him being an opening day starter.
Gurianov is likely 3rd line RW
Sissons is 4th line Centre
Parssinen gets some time at LW on the 3rd line
Yakov & Sherwood are the wingers on the 4th line with Sissons, to make a strong Defense first grinder line.
I think Barrie slides to 3rd pairing, with Fabbro getting 2nd pair minutes.
Glass and Novak are likely interchangeable, and wouldn't surprise me that by mid season one of them is top line and O'Reilly is 2nd line C.
Definitely a lot of moving parts in this roster... I'm intrigued to see who actually takes the next step forward.

If I am Trotz, I think I do this. I think a 2nd is reasonable for Brannstrom, and Trenin / Kubalik is a bit of wash in my eyes.
Seems doable.

Trotz Bold Retool
Barrie will be gone, or if he is back, won't be for that much.
Novak deal seems plausible.
Scheif deal makes no sense in my eyes. Sure he'll get paid, but I don't want Nashville to be the ones that do... likely because...
Fabbro, Tomasino and Parssinen will be getting paid more than that. Wouldn't surprise me for Trotz to try to lock them up for longer term. The trend lately it seems is to give the up and comers term and hope that their cap hit in 2 years becomes a steal of a deal.

Anaheim Ducks signed Troy Terry (7 Years / $7,000,000 AAV)
The People who vote not a good deal are likely Leaf fans, because they know Nylander will cost a lot more than this, and they are salty that they don't have Terry instead.

Realistic Nylander Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseOfTastykakes</b></div><div>I feel like if Nylander was willing to sign a 8x$8.9 contract, Toronto would probably just keep him at that price. It's only a $2 million increase from his currently contract and for 8 years.</div></div>
Very valid point. Maybe the biggest difference is that the $8.9mil goes a lot farther in Nashville due to state taxes compared to Toronto. I think Nashville ranks like #6 on lowest income tax for all the teams, and Toronto is like #23 or something along those lines. If it is like 5-8% difference. Like, 8% on $9.0 mil is $720k. So to make the same in Toronto, he would need to sign for $9.7mil per season. (Roughly)

It is the fact he is 31 with 2 more yrs after this one. Sherwood showed promise at the end of last season, and players like Kemell, Svechkov, L'Heureux, Schaefer are all primed to be making the jump either this or next year.

The only way Trotz makes a trade with this kind of value, would be for a legit #1 C... not Nylander, regardless of value of extension, etc.

No reason for Trotz to make this trade. Jarnkrok blocks a roster spot for the up and coming players.

Ive seen many Leaf ACGM either trying to move Jarnkrok and/or Brodie to Nashville. Even this one has Nashville taking Lafferty... which, Nashville would never do.
At this point, if the Leafs have to move Jarnkrok / Brodie / Lafferty / whoever, in order to make the money work... the Leafs will need to GIVE a draft pick with the player, and not expect to get draft compensation in return.
Most team rosters are set for the bottom 6, and there are still a handful of FA's who can be signed for league minimum to fit these roles. Sorry Leaf fans, but in order to move these players, you're likely having to give up picks in order to do it.

Outside Looking in Come Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>I see you have Schaefer on the roster. Do you think there's a possibility he makes the NHL club this year? I figured him to be more of a long-term project.</div></div>
It could potentially be Egor Afanasyev over Schaefer... I guess it would come down to who was producing better in the AHL.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JKCpp</b></div><div>Oilers got bjugstad at 50% retained for a 3rd round pick I don’t think the oilers do this if they do it’s gonna be 5th round pick at most in my opinion</div></div>
I figured the 3rd because his cap is still only $850,000... and that should be digestible for any team come trade deadline. We could split the difference and say forth.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Novak would definitely have to be performing well again this season. He had everything go right last season. He's also an extremely late bloomer which might mean his best is yet to come, or last season is a complete anomaly.</div></div>
It could come down to last season being the anomaly, and he is a 30-40pt per season player period. Being this is likely his first and only real payday, I'm sure he is going to be motivated to put up numbers which would justify him being worth the 1st.
I could honestly see it that Nashville's season results will be 100% reflective on how Novak does. If Novak continues his breakout, Nashville could be in contention. If he regresses, then so does the team as a whole. Time will tell I guess.

Continuing to tank
2 years of T.K. at $2.75mil... for a 1st, Carrier and a Prospect... if I am Trotz, I would highly consider this for sure.
It takes a roster spot away from a young up and comer, but if things don't work... at that cap hit and term, Trotz could easily flip him somewhere else for a similar return.

That is likely correct value for Carrier (low 2nd / high 3rd) ... however, I see Trotz holding him until trade deadline as if he breaks out this season (as he should), he could be worth a lot more come deadline.

Brodie plus a 3rd for Lauzon kind of makes sense to me. It is an upgrade on this years D-core, but if the roster isn't in a playoff push, they can easily flip him at the deadline and get even more return (like a 2nd maybe). So it could end up being Lauzon for a 2nd and a 3rd at trade deadline. I think most Nashville fans would jump on that.

A different Offensive RHD option
I think Nashville is open to moving off Barrie, and a low 2nd / high 3rd is likely all that is needed to get him.
Rutta could act as a 7th D with his Cap hit, not ideal as it takes a spot away from the young guys coming up, but maybe.
DeSmith wouldn't see any ice in Nashville unless they were hit by a lot of injuries. Honestly I think Dubas shipping him elsewhere makes more sense.

The Buds
I have seen a few Leaf ACGM teams where they send Jarnkrok to Nashville for 2 low picks. Value of picks aside, Nashville would never want to do the trade. They have way too many kids coming up who need playing time. Even if the ask is 2 low picks, Trotz still wouldn't do it. Just because Nashville has cap, doesn't mean they need to use it.

A Bit of Business
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>I assumed since they extended him that he fits in their future plans while Fabbro doesn't (lots of trade speculation since the deadline).</div></div>
With the extension they gave him, it is more of a 'Prove It' year than anything being he'll now be a UFA after this season. Both Fabbro and Carrier have trade speculation around them as those 2, along with Lauzon... one of them starts the season as a scratch.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>There is some weird push from some NSH fans that say he isn't that good because he isn't the top D man to pair with Josi they thought he was, so some people might say a 2nd or 3rd, but realistically the lowest NSH would probably go, for a single pick, would be a high to mid 2nd round pick for Fabbro. Given where COL is likely to end up, a low first round pick is about right especially considering NSH needs to take on MacDermid to make the money work. As you said, he is a really solid 2-way D who is top 4 for most teams. NSH has just been blessed to be a D production powerhouse over the last 10-15 years and fans have grown accustom to it.</div></div>
This is pretty spot on for the value of Fabbro in my eyes. Being an RFA still provides some control to a team who acquires him. I would say Carrier's value would be 1 round less. Mid-Low 2nd round or high 3rd.
But as it goes for either player, once the season starts and they do show the upside that they supposedly have, the values will only go up.

Going out and getting Scheifele makes no sense to me. I would argue he is a similar player to Duchene, and just as weak defensively. So why would we buyout Duchene to only sell the farm to bring in a player who is almost identical?
Same would be in signing Tarasenko... just doesn't make sense for what Trotz is trying to do. He wants players who will be good presence to the young kids... not vets who decide to take shifts off and are known to be defensive liabilities at one time in the careers.
I get that it looks good on paper, just not what Trotz is trying to accomplish in my eyes.

I don't get why people think Nashville wants Jarnkrok or will give up a 4th and 7th... even how minimal it is. Trotz is doing a youth movement, and taking up a roster spot for a bottom 6 forward when the young guys coming up need ice time... it just doesn't make sense for Trotz to do this. Yes they have cap space, but it doesn't mean they need to fill it.
As for everything else on this... doesn't really feel like any of these are an upgrade or improvement to anything.
