Good trade for both sides. Coleman is plays a really strong north-south game, using his speed on the forecheck and crashing the net, not to mention he plays with an edge. Good stick in the defensive zone as well, fitting well onto their third line. New Jersey gets a 1st round pick and a prospect with second line upside.
Most likely won’t affect the market for Kreider or Tofolli. Both are rentals and teams will be unwilling to go beyond the 1st/2nd round pick + average prospect that rentals cost.
If the Devils trade Vats and Palmieri they could potentially have 5 firsts this year. Also Tom Fitzgerald should just have the interm tag taken off right now
Devils doing good things today. Tee up Sami and Kyle at this point.
Yeah it’ll be interesting to see now what they get on Sami and Kyle!!
On another note: I think it’s pretty fair value. Devils have a slight edge tho as Coleman is a UFA and may ask to high of a price for TBL to pay next season. Also depends how Nolan Foote continues to develop and what comes from the 1st rounder.
Damn NJD back at again fleecing teams in trades. First getting assests for Greene and now fleecing TBL out of trading Foote and a first in exchange for Coleman. Yikes for Tampa, good trade for New Jersey.

All in all NJD is 2/2 on the past trades!
Coleman has one more year after this one. Then he’s UFA Tampa gets next year too.
Hi guys Devils fan here, Tampa fans will love Coleman the guy just does so many good things on the ice, this trade is surprising yes but if you watch Coleman enough it makes sense. On a bad Jersey team he constantly keeps unlocking more and he is tough as nails, good trade for all.

It’s funny because people villainize me in this website constantly and then the real GMs make similarly lopsided trades involving 1st round picks. Weird.
I like Coleman, but not that much. You couldn't get another hard checking forward for like a 2nd to play in the 3rd line?
Not only is Coleman a fit for a checking line, he can score offensively and is defensively sound. How many players are under contract for under 2M for next season and are available in a trade?
