Doubt the Leafs have the kind of assets CBJ would be looking for in a Jiricek trade. They won't be a competitive team in the marketplace. We have a recent example of what this kind of trade should be expected to look like with the Cutter Gauthier situation.

One of the few guys I'd roll out the red carpet for. Even if he only hits his low end ceiling him and Lily solve the RHD problem for a generation

How much more could they get? I personally value Cowen extraordinarily highly.

And just to be clear - I was the biggest Cowen guy on this site from day 1. I'm a knights fan and I've probably seen him play more than most scouts have

I think a more CBJ-esque move, smart or not, though, would to be to trade him for Marner and give him a ridiculous contract. Which I mean, not saying I'd be against if we don't make some big strides this year

I think it's more the Leafs don't have the kind of quality you'd be looking for in a Jiricek trade. You've dumped quantity instead in the AGM but someone would probably trade another highly regarded prospect akin to Jiricek or good, young players.

oh I know - I mean under a certain set of circumstances I could see it, but I know all the reasons against. Just think CBJ mortgaging the future a bit for a superstar in his prime just to still be mid is so on brand

Maybe. Cowen is on pace for 100 points this year though in only 55 games, plus the world's and long stay at camp. I think he has risen to that A tier prospect status.

There’s no way CBJ would give up Jiricek for that. It would realistically have to include Knies, but even then can’t see CBJ moving him

IF that report is accurate, the first person Jarmo should be telephoning is Pat Verbeek, just to find out whether those rumors about Trevor Zegras being on the market are true.

That could make sense, although I personally don't like Zegras. Very overrated so far

I think people tend to overrate CHL production from post-draft players. They are adultish players playing against kids. This is sort of the expected result from a 1st round draft pick in the CHL, not an amazing season which means he's going to be a star or anything.

100 points in 55 games for a D+1 is not the standard 1st rounder status - especially not for a 28 overall

I get this sentiment but given that we’re the organization with Dumais… this doesn’t blow me away. Of course his health is concerning us now but he’s blown the doors off Cowan in point production. Cowan would be great but doesn’t fill a key need for us whereas Jiricek does. We’d be looking for premium D or G prospects.

For context, here’s our forward group already (current and prospects): Gaudreau, Chinakhov, Marchenko, Dumais, Brindley, Kent Johnson, Fantilli, Sillinger, Voronkov. Also have Pinelli, Peddle, Rysavy, Del Bel Belluz, and Texier. Oh and also Patrik Laine.

Dumais plays in what is by far the weakest league in the CHL, and he also doesn't have anything near the other skills that Cowen brings. Not really comparable players.

Also, no offense but your forward group mostly just sucks lmao.

Don't read into the frustrations of Jiricek too much, the management core won't be around long enough to deal him. We're an absolute mess and I have no idea how heads haven't rolled already, s***'s straight up embarrassing.

There's not a Jiricek deal with Toronto that doesn't involve him and a package going out for Matthews. The only thing Columbus needs as much as a star C is a stud RD. There's absolutely nothing here to talk about IMO, end of story.

Dumais played the WJC with a bilateral hernia and put up the same stats against good competition as Cowan. Sorry bud.

Also if u think that forward group sucks then u dont know puck. Every NHL analyst disagrees with u.

Let me be clear, it never happens. I'm not trying to suggest there's even a remote possibility. I'm not even going to guess how many additional 1st-rounders go with Jiricek to Toronto for Matthews in that scenario. I'm just saying the two biggest organizational needs are 1C and 1RD, Fantilli should fill the 1C role and Jiricek is our only shot at the 1RD role. Any Jiricek trade needs a 1C or 1RD coming back, otherwise it's one step forward and two steps back. In my eyes, Jiricek is as untouchable as Fantilli for that reason.
