whats enough to let go Zegras
Anaheim can and would do better than that offer.
Those are some fascinating UFA choices. Not sure what the attraction is for either the Ducks or those players, tbh.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>I don’t. Norris was a 2 way centre pre injury: last thing they need is a worse version of Tarasenko who can’t play defence.
They need 2 way players not to spend money on more scoring</div></div>
You're not wrong about the lack of fit, but also not being totally fair here about respective injury risk. Laine's injuries have all been one-off freak injuries to different parts of his body, two of them this season as a result of dirty hits by other players (Rasmus Andersson and William Lagesson... apparently Swedes hate him). Norris has had surgery on the same shoulder three times now. If one of them is a greater risk, it's the one with a chronic injury to the shoulder on his shooting side, and that's not Laine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>Jackets decline. They're not a team that's going to trade down. Their biggest need is top 6/4 talent and keeping the higher pick should give them a better chance at getting a player to fill that need.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Yeah that’s fair I mean it’s arguable that 7 + 12 will also yield top 6/top 4 for both picks lol but that was more so the Flyers trading up to get someone Michkov is familiar with. Could also be with Anaheim or Montreal if needed but I don’t know how long Demidov will last.</div></div>
I could see Columbus trading down if they fall to sixth to get another late first, for example. But 4OA is a hard ask. If Demidov is there, they'll just take him, I'd think. The talent is too great to pass up for some middle-six caliber wings or third pair caliber defensemen at the end of the round. The org has no issues with getting Russians to come over and already has arguably the largest Russian contingent in the league at six if you include half-Russian, fully-fluent Elvis (Tarasov, Voronkov, Chinakhov, Provorov, Marchenko, Merzlikins). I could see Anaheim biting for a good offer if they slide down to fourth, though, and I don't really see Demidov as a likely Verbeek pick. Montreal 100% takes Demidov if he's available at their pick, though.
Also impossible to predict right now til we know who the new GM is, or if the new GM will even be allowed to participate in the draft this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I actually agree here, but it's splitting hairs. A cap dump requires the dumping team to be up against the cap. With Price on LTIR, Montreal is still $10+M away from that. Ex: Kampf has more value than Dvorak, but because Toronto is way up against the cap, Kampf is a cap dump.
He's not a "cap dump", but he's definitely not an asset Columbus is interested in. We might claim him off waivers for free to try him out as veteran depth, but we've got plenty of bottom-sixers. No need to actually pay for more.</div></div>
Go look at this roster’s cap space. There’s only a million of space. He is very much a cap space in the context of this particular roster, and was traded off of it to make room. Cap. Dump.

I figure Columbus has to up their pick and at least match salary. For Detroit, they get a goalie that has had patches of starting goalie potential. They rid of Husso that fell out of favour and Ned did improve overall in 2024 for Columbus.</div></div>
Columbus doesn't care about any of that. Husso can back up Tarasov for a year. They need a vet for that, anyway. They just want Elvis out of a room where the relationship is sour.

Sure, in a vacuum. But you're forgetting two extremely crucial things: 1) his NMC means he picks his destination, and 2) he's got one year left and ain't no way he's signing an extension anywhere. That immediately dries up your market.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zadinaveleno</b></div><div>I dont even know why we are arguing about this lol
Must be another year without the playoffs for me as a Wings fan
I just think you are "under-valuing" Maatta a bit, but I get it, youd rather play Jiricek or Mateychuk or Svozil, or a prospect making less $ than Maatta
I do think someone out there takes Maatta from us, and we likely dont need to retain, but I guess that team isnt Columbus.</div></div>
And that's all I've been trying to tell you. He's not worthless, just not worth it to Columbus. Not sure why Yzerman signed him, either, tbh. No, Columbus isn't good and won't be next year either, but the roster spot being open for prospects to get their feet wet is more important right now than whatever meaningless extra win or two over the course of the season Määttä might contribute.

but I get it, youre not interested in improving your team lol</div></div>
Olli Määttä is not an improvement to the team is what everyone in this post is trying to tell you. He's not better than Werenski. He's not better than Provorov. He's not even better than Jake Bean. And at least one of the latter two of those are likely on the block to make room for Denton Mateychuk to get some NHL minutes next season. There are plenty of ways Columbus can improve next year, but adding Olli Määttä isn't one of them.
