My optimal playoff lines

Just like the idea of having two units, not a pp1 and pp2. Like how the ran it in the very early Matthews years where they spread the talent over two units and made pp/pk matchups more difficult and engaged everyone rather than just letting one unit play 1:30 of the PP and giving pp2 just 30 seconds to try and get something going. Do 1min each.

No because I don't think the core has been given a fair shot with the D core this year

Ik it's a joke. But deciding to blow up, unless the core is utterly awful, given how brutal the D core is this year in particular, would be stupid

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>I never said Mitts had a “better season”
U don’t seem to understand how words work
Mitts “REPLACES” Tavares bc his contract is up & u guys will need a new 2C
Wow dude, calm down & think for a sec before u lose your mind & just fire back blindly</div></div>
when JT's deal is up he'll extend at a cheap cap and shift to wing, then from there either one of Minten or Cowan should be ready to step into the role and failing that we'll sign either a legit 2C or a grittier fringe 2C. Perfectly calm, just having Mitts "replace" JT makes zero sense for Toronto. He's a soft skill player who I wouldn't trust enough defensively as the 2C, we don't have a use for that in Toronto. For our purposes, I'd be hard-pressed to accept trading Liljegren one for one.

-more like Fringe 2nd pair RD- we’d want someone better defensively- MUCH better

This package gives us NOTHING that we “need”
And u guys should LOVE to get a 2C like Mitts to replace Tavares asap
But whatever, we aren’t doing this crap trade so it doesn’t matter</div></div>
Replace Tavares? Mitts never has or will had a better season than him. That's a ridiculous statement. Liljegren is solid defensively - immediate, undeniable upgrade over anyone not named Dahlin, Power, and Samuelsson for the Sabres. And agreed - neither side seems to want this deal so who cares?

ZERO CHANCE we’d trade Mitts for a crappy package like that</div></div>
1st + a 24 year old 2nd pair RHD is no crappy package, no brainer to skip out on giving that for a 2nd line winger, fringe 2nd line C due for a raise in the offseason. Doesn't solve any need for Toronto, gives away our best trade assets to plug real holes, and creates one at 2RD.

Connor Murphy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>As a Hawks fan, I'm listening. The biggest issue I have really doesn't have much to do with the trade value or the Leafs or ANYTHING outside of the Hawks organization. My issue/question is internal to the Hawks organization. How should a prospect be developed into an NHLer? We have a REALLY young team on the left side with Vlasic, KK, and likely next year Del Mastro. Murphy is helping Kevin Korchinski develop into an NHLer. All rookies make mistakes. Having a physical veteran to be paired with helps with long term development tremendously. Should Murphy be traded away at all would be my question. Not about trade value though. It's about our own team.</div></div>
fair. Though I do think the play would be take the picks/prospects and overpay a vet RHD a la Foligno/Dickinson to come next year and be that mentor

yea from Toronto's perspective Murphy is big, not offensively attuned but really solid defensively - the type of partner Rielly usually excels with. And I'd rather pony up for rental + 2yrs at a reasonable cap hit than one run with Tanev, even if Tanev is a bit better

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Falcon_talon</b></div><div>What is it with the Robertson trades? He is a great prospect IF he got the chance. Bertuzzi should take the fall not him. Bert gets traded WAY before Robertson imo. Yes of course Bert won't have too much trade value since he's on a 1 year deal but he's been underwhelming while Robertson has exceded expectations.</div></div>
looking to playoffs I'm very nervous of Robertson not being able to handle a physical, tight style of game. He excels in the loose, fast game, but is a small guy who isn't particularly strong on the puck. Bert, on the other hand, has struggled but all of his best games pretty much have come in those more playoff-like games.

absolutely crazy biased take, not one GM in the league including Buffalo would say they'd take Johnson over Byram. There's a reason they are both 22 years old and one has played 100 more games in the league.

Leafs consider for sure if that was a 2024 TDL deal but waste of an asset when we can pick up an equivalent D man in the offseason in FA without spending the pick

Bert could be better no doubt but he has also been criminally unlucky. Think that's partly why you could extend him for so cheap. Also not fully ready to give my judgement until we see his playoff performance
I also think Keefe has done a pretty terrible job of getting non core-4 forwards involved

Hope he just decides he wants some long term contract security, and the Leafs decide not to judge him based off of one down season with his lowest shooting %. Kampf makes too much and, if they go for the big and heavy identity Tre seems to be looking for, I could see a path where Jarnkrok is dealt. Not saying its the most likely scenario necessarily.
