Matt Dumba a signé un contrat de 1 ans d'une valeur de 3 900 000 $ avec les Coyotes de l'Arizona, le 6 août 2023. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 3 900 000 $.
What leverage did Dumba have that he got 3,9M? At this moment, my best offer being Arizona is 2M. He pretty much had nowhere else to go, maybe except Anaheim. No other teams had free roster spots or money to sign him.
More like pretend, but it's a step in the right direction. Obvious hole in the lineup for a veteran defenseman. Arguably still a hole, but it looks a lot less shaky with Dumba, and when they fall short, the can take inventory at the deadline and see if there are deals to be made.
Spending money on quality veteran free agents without anchoring to term, and keeping all the draft capital banked away is a good compromise towards continuing the rebuild and trying to be more competitive for the players' and team's sake.
He was not good last year and if he doesn't bounce back then this contract will be awful.
It's one-year. It can't be "awful." Just bad. And they don't need him to put up points. Just be a reliable veteran presence for those young guys, and it will be a positive even if he only scores ten points.

I mean, they will be dangerous when Weber/Little/Voracek return ;-)
More or less yes. They have no plans to try and push for playoffs yet but wants to help the existing talent to improve. These 1 year contracts will help the GM evaluate the core in a more competitive team.
Good signing for Arizona for the reasons set forth by the positive commenters, but a bad signing for Anaheim -- I think that we could have benefitted from having him for the same reasons that the Coyotes will/might.

Dumba, Valimaki, Durzi and Stecher is hockey's definition of swiss cheese. Still, they are a better team with him. Those fowards better retreat fast AF though lol.
