Avs fans were saying Newhook for Scheifele was an overpayment. Every fan base overrates their guys. Some certainly more than others.

I think this trade is very consistent with expectations. Win win for both sides.

Fair trade. A high 2nd round pick for Colton. I think TB gets a good prospect or potential steal in the draft (who knows what the future holds) and COL gets Colton who is a solid Top 9 forward who I think still hasn't reached his ceiling.

Who knew Montreal 2nd round picks would be the hottest trade commodity this week? The 2023 and 2024 picks have both been traded twice in the last couple of days.

3C usually don't cost a high 2nd.

Sundqvist, Namesnikov, Bonino, Bjugstad, Engvall and Johansson were all paid a 3rd or way less this year. The only comparable is Eller for a mid-2nd, which shows a trend about Colorado overpaying for center depth.

Newhook was drafted as a mid 1st rounder and could not take the 3C spot. Laughton would have cost a 1st. At this point we needed an established 3C and not many options at an affordable AAV.

Eller was an overpay at the TDL.

Avs win by taking advantage of the Lightning's cap situation. Newhook for Colton, the 31OA pick and a prospect is INSANE(especially because IMO, Colton>Newhook, although Newhook is less proven). I don't think the value is far off though.


I think Colton should get top 6 minutes on the Avs. I'd love to see a 2nd line of Colton-Johansen-Rantanen. That would be INSANE.

He was going to earn top 6 time in Tampa this year with Killorn out the door. He needs that ice time if he's going to improve. With Colton headed to Colorado, Killorn may in fact be sticking around in Tampa.

If this is to help them get Killorn back idk seems like a bad move. Colton's younger and probs would cost the same as Killorn depending on the deal they offered. Would have kept him and like Palat let Killorn walk

Great player for Colorado's bottom 6 and for great value.

I like this for Tampa, they probably couldn't afford to pay Colton and an early 2nd seems a bit high for a good 3rd liner
