This is a huge overpayment by Penguins but is it what we needed back for Kapanen? Time will tell.

Huge win if we dont QO Rodrigues and sign a UFA D man.

I guess I'm in the minority that likes this deal for Pittsburgh.

Kapanen over the last 2 years at 5v5 is 20th in points and 30th in goals among all RW's. The first rounder may not make the NHL for 2-3 years and Rodrigues and Warsofsky are worth next to nothing. Kapanen strapped to Crosby's RW could be a 25-30 goal guy and 30+ assist.

He's played with some good linemates though.... and still wasn't great this past year in Tavares.

Kapanen is a good player.

Kapanen COULD be a top 6 player on the right team.

This wasn't a good move for the penguins

Although Dubas is the one GM if it looks good on paper doesn't mean it's reality. (Barrie trade)

No. Kadri's a lot better than Kapanen.

Great, now the awful Kapanen for Matt Roy/Sean Walker trades can stop.

If Dubas is smart, he'll use that 2020 1st to put a package together for a 1RD.

i cant say i like this trade at all.. i have several points to make about it ..
50/50 hallander is never going to leave home.. rodrigues and warsofsky .. are worth nothing.
aberg has shown potential. kapanen /sid/ jake ..
lindgren RD future 3rd pair solid but nothing flashy. the pens have a track record with dmen tho.. but 1 rd pick come on... and 15th at that ..
maybe gmJR was told to go all in 1 more yr 2 more at best , then gut the team at trade deadline for rebuild .. same time as the seattle entry ..
trade deadline in 21-22 season pens could make at least 8 trades and begin the rebuild kapanen being one of them.. the all in trade deadline deals of the past 6-7 yrs have left the pens pretty decimated
but some how the pens always seem to find gems .. marino and petersson on d those 2 are 10 yrs 2nd pairing .. but 22-23 start rebuild .. solid in the middle .. even if both sid and geno lose a bit still great mentors a great trade deadline haul in 21-22 and a good 22 draft and 24-25 they could be right back in contender status.. lots of trades this yr may possible be head scratchers.. due to seattle entry ..

JT isn't Crosby, Crosby can make a 4th liner look legit. Won't be surprised if he goes off assuming he plays with 87 next year.

Certainly didn't happen for Cody Ceci.

Ottawa gave Ceci a QO before they traded him. Dubas had no choice on that one.

Trade favors Toronto on paper, but part of that will heavily depend on what happens with Rodrigues. A qualifying offer for him is $2m which will cut into the cap space created. If Dubas doesn't give him a QO, he's free to negotiate anywhere and I'd think Dubas wanted him since he was included in the deal to begin with. Idk... maybe they offer him something like $1.25m for 2 years or something to convince him to take less?

I really love that Rutherford comes to Pitt, trades away Kapp for Kessel and 1 trillion insane trades later, he trades with Toronto to bring Kapp back.

Can anyone do the full circle transaction history on those player paths?

Horrible trade for the penguins. GMJR is a crackhead. I've said it before someone needs to take the keys away.
I get they think the 15OA might not play, but man Hallander could have played.

It's clear they are trying to add speed to the team. They want to fly up and down the ice. But they need to start being honest. Not having any zone time, no cycle game, it's just killing them.

They skate down 1 shot and done, then the puck sits in their end for 5 minutes while the goalie gets pelted.

This was just the wrong move.

You couldn't let us enjoy Toronto's misery. I was so looking forward to Toronto doing noting at the draft and the media hyping a mid-2nd round pick...

The Leafs may have won this trade, and that’s great and all, but was it worth sacrificing their morals? Stealing from a senile old man... where does it end? Shame on Dubas and RIP Pit fans.

You may have just broken the record for the most likes on one post.

I just don't get this at all. Pittsburgh doesn't win this trade even from a cap perspective. And to those who try to defend it by saying that the 15th overall may not play for a couple of years, I have two words: Dylan Larkin.

This seems like a slam dunk win for Toronto.

What's the story on Lidgren? I'm reading he's an analytics darling?

Is this JRs attempt to fix the Jack Johnson problem with a stable partner? He just keeps doubling down on terrible investments.

If Lindgren is playing regular NHL minutes when your team is fully healthy, you've got a bit of a problem. He isn't much more than a good AHL guy who could fill in for a few games here and there.

Leafs had to lose a either Johnsson or Kapanen for cap reasons
So in effect they got a first and second (Hallendar) for Kapanen. The other pieces are NHL inconsequential. I like Kapanen but in a cap strapped league, I don't think his trade value is that high.

That 1st is not helping for when 87 / 71 / 58 are here so who cares...

We finally get a young RHRWer that has speed & upside + never played in top 6 & never w/ a Center like 87 or 71

Hallander will be a 4th liner maybe & he def aint helping the next 2 yrs so who cares, again

Rodrigues is what he is a #13 Forward that does nothing

SOOOOO
we get a 23yr old Fast RH-RWer that is a NHLer that finally gets a chance in Top 6 for nothing that matters for our window....
I LIKE IT !!!!

I think it all depends on what the Leafs decide to do with the pick. I'm of the opinion that they should try and trade it for a RHD, and trade Johnsson for futures to open up cap space to sign another RHD in free agency.
