I've long thought that Weegar would be a fantastic target for the Leafs, but if this is the price, I'll pass. As much as I like the guy, no one player is going to come in and solve everything. I'd rather just keep the assets and maybe go after a UFA.
The main reason I was interested in him (aside from his performance in terms of shot/chance prevention over the last couple of years against varying levels of competition), is that I think he could potentially be undervalued in terms of trade and contract. Florida already has a good chunk of money committed to 4 Dmen, two of whom have some form of trade protection and the other two are Ekblad (who I don't think they want to move) and Matheson (who might be tough to move). Given that they want to cut salary, they may find themselves inclined to move Weegar. Tallon is also not known for his love of analytics which is where Weegar really shines; it's possible that he's undervalued by the GM.
This would also likely result in the Leafs losing Holl to the ED, which makes this move much more lateral a year from now or they pay to keep Holl and this basically becomes even more of an overpay.
