Michael Anderson has signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

This is a really, really good deal that will only continue to get better as the cap rises. Locking down a genuinely great top 4 LD at this price for this long is a tidy piece of work from Rob Blake. Happy for LA and Mikey!

God I hope we get Lindgren for this price. Great deal for LA.

I have to believe that the two people who voted No don't know our team well. Anderson is integral to the team going forward.

Took the Labanc deal last season to get a better payday this time around. Good for him. He's been fantastic this year.

This is not a guy I would take a risk on long term. Voted no because LA should've given this guy a bridge contract. Advanced stats are meh.

I just find it interesting that the Kings made this signing right after rumors of Chychrun being traded to the Kings hit fever pitch.

This kind of reminds me of the Pesce deal. Looks to be pretty fair value in AAV, and you are basically just buying all of the most expensive years now, and the biggest win comes with having this deal locked in while the cap rises. I find this sort of deal works best on D, because having some consistency and cost certainty when filling in your top 4 is just super useful. At this price, as long as Anderson fits into the top 4, it's at worst fine, and at best a solid bit of surplus value.

Biggest risk is that Anderson is a one dimensional player, and one dimensional players tend to be a bit more volatile, so if his defensive game slips, it becomes more noticable, since that was the only area that he provided value in the first place. It's a risk worth taking, and I think the AAV reflects the risk, so there is likely more room for upside then there is downside from LAs point of view, but it's worth pointing out.

Hopefully for the Kings this contract ages better than the Labanc deal did for the Sharks.

I don't see how this signing has any effect on a potential Chychrun trade.

Only a third contract on an 8 year deal and below the 5M AAV mark. But history has not been kind so far with these (Matheson, Kotkaniemi).

Samuelsson's sample size was much smaller but he was a great fit by Dahlin for a 25-games stretch. Buffalo is betting he's going to be to Dahlin what Methot was to Karlsson.

Also, Samuelsson can be bought out anytime between now and 2025 (included) for 1/3 value, whereas Andersson is 2/3 of the contract's total value in penalty starting in 2025. The risk is different but the sample size larger in the later case.
