what are the odds the Oilers fumble this year again.

because I really hope they dont waste another year.

get a goalie, get depth, go all in please. If they believe Smith/Kos/Skinner plus their current depth is winning a cup.
Were gonna see another prime Leon and Connor year wasted.

Quoting: A_Habs_fan
Oh yeah, the Oilers will waste another year with that defence and goaltending

The thing with Holland. He seems to have the right ideas but they never come together. This reminds me of his final years in Detroit after the golden era

This is the Oilers depth scoring numbers when RNH, Mcdavid, and Draisaitl are not on the ice

19/20 goalshare with 97/29/93 off the ice: 38%, 1.47 GF/60, 2.37 GA/60

20/21 goalshare with 97/29/93 off the ice: 35%, 1.4 GF/60, 2.62 GA/60

21/22 goalshare with 97/29/93 off the ice: 30%, 1.75 GF/60, 4 GA/60

So depth as you said is Issue #1

Issue #2 wtf did Holland spend 30mill on in FA

1. Zach Hyman 5.5mill x 7 years... (2 years of good and 5 years of torture -->Lucic)
2. Cody Ceci 3.25mill x 4 years...
3. Mike Smith 2mill x 2 years (Could have traded for Nedeljkovic or Vanacek)
4. Derek Ryan 1.25mill x 2 years (Was supposed to be 3c but is now 4c as 0 production happens)
5. Tyson Barrie 4.5mill x 2 years... (Already on the block)

Guys he could have signed

1. Pius Suter 3.25mill (3rd line center)
2. A proper starter if they dont trade for the options mentioned (Anderson 4.5x2 yrs)
3. Heinen 1.1mill x 1 year
4. Donato 750k x 1 year

And while not a signing buyout Koskinen (saves 3mill in space)

Issue #3 Offseason Trades

1. Bear for Foegele (Bear was a good young top 4 Dman and was moved for Foegele who has not been that productive)
2. Duncan Keith (You paid for a cap dump)

Some trades he could have made

1. Ellis (replace Myers with Bear and Patrick with a 2nd for the basis)
2. Graves (cost a 3rd)
3. Arvidsson (cost a 2nd + 3rd)
4. Buchnevich (before the confirmed illness Archibald + 2nd)
5. Nedeljkovic (Cost a 3rd + a goalie who never signed in Carolina)

Of these 4 Ellis, Graves, and Arvidsson would have been perfect

And finally Issue #4 Tippet

The guy is to predictable now and while you cant always stop Mcdavid and Draisaitl as the numbers show you slow or stop them Oilers got no depth scoring so usually ends up in a loss or less than 5 goals.

Yeah it really wasn't hard to make the oilers into a legit cup contender this season , Holland just made all the wrong moves.

Just imagine this offseason

Signs Hyman and Ryan (to be shudown 4c), and Suter (to be 3c) via FA
Trades Nashville (Bear + 2021 1st (Wallstedt) + 2023 2nd for Ellis + Arvidsson) ---> Combined both trades and simplified to take away a pick to make it work
Trades Carolina (2022 2nd for Nedeljkovic)
Trades Colorado (2023 3rd for Graves) --> Seattle was taking Larsson anyways

So then for 2021-2022

Hyman-Mcdavid-JP
RNH-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
Mcleod-Suter-Arvidsson
Shore-Ryan-Kassian

Nurse-Ellis
Graves-Bouchard
Koekkoek-Russel

Nedeljkovic
Koskinen

Thought this was interesting (though not anything "new" to Ferraro news)

Not only has 23yr Mario already earned an A on his jersey and a voice on the leadership team - but he clearly has weight to his voice.
Not only has BB said this but so has other players throughout the year and just the other night with him out (Middleton echoed the same thought).

Ferraro isnt underrated any more but he is underappreciated throughout the league. Right now - for all star voting; if I am sending Sharks to the All Star game its in order of :

1. Meier
2. Reimer
3. Karlsson/ Ferraro

I think Ferraro - while not going to be a superstar, is going to be really fascinating player to watch develop more. As he's only gotten better with more responsibilities and more play.
It will be paramount to have him sign 3-5 years (still a RFA at 5) - with a good AAV.

The Sharks are going to start having to pay up to move contracts (Kane, eventually Vlasic) but they are building a bright young future core with Ferraro at the lead.

If Holland and Tippett didn't have huge egos , they can easily turn the season around. Trade a 1st or 2nd with Koskinen for Varlamov. I'd also target Kulak + Lehkonen from MTL.

Hyman-Mcdavid-Puljujarvi
RNH-Draisaitl-Foegle
Lehkonen-Mcleod-Yamamoto
Benson-Ryan-Scevior

Nurse-Bouchard
Kulak-Ceci
Keith-Barrie (heavily sheltered)

Lafreniere has looked much better over the last few weeks, but man Kakko is just so underwhelming lol. He looks like he’ll top out as a middle 6 defensive forward. Brutal for a #2 overall pick.

I haven't watched Laf play much but has he really gotten much better? Looking at the stats in the last month (13 games), he has 3 goals and 2 assists. 2 of the goals were from misplays by goalies and the other was a rebound that went right to his stick (goalie was way out of his crease). I haven't watched many Rangers games so I could be wrong

Yeah there was a stretch of games last month where he looked like he would benefit from a stint in the AHL. He’s driving play offensively and he looks more confident.

Lmao

To those who don't get it, this is effectively the same as Terry Pegula announcing that he becomes the next head coach of Buffalo Sabres, and Granato stays as his own assistant.

Virtual school is great. Also why do some of the caps wins feel like losses. For example the Detroit and Nashville games recently. We haven’t been playing well but continue to get points. That makes me mad.
