Jeannot is a very talented FOURTH LINER, paid over 2 million. That is generally a mistake as fourth liners only have so much impact. The fact that they got positive value is impressive. But a second? Woe
Can someone explain to me why people are voting TBL won here? They traded Cal Foote, ‘25 1st, ‘24 2nd, and 3rd, 4th, and 5th each in 2023 for Jeannot, and now have traded Jeannot for a ‘24 4th and ‘25 2nd

You're not voting for the first Jeannot trade. You're voting for the second one.
Just because Tampa lost the first trade doesn't mean trading and overpaid 4th liner with delusions of grandeur for a 2 and a 4 isn't a win when cap space is at a premium.

Because they're evaluating this trade in a vacuum (like they should). Much like the Kings "won" the PLD for Kuemper swap, the Kings still lost in the long run considering what they gave up for Dubois.
Tampa was able to get a 2nd and a 4th, without retention, out of an overpaid player that probably shouldn't have returned anything. That's a win.

Because we are judging the trade in a vacuum. TBL traded one asset today for more than market value.
You can galaxy brain any trade and say it was/wasn’t a good idea in the scheme of things.
You just have to look at a few Sabres fans here the last few days justifying passing on Buium/Dickinson.
