Would you buy out Elvis

Description
I would hold off on the buyout at least for another year personally.

Jarvis could be an alternate offer sheet target

Bruins make some sense as an option for Laine, strong culture there and could be a fit to play with Marchand/Coyle, retention brings him to a similar cap hit as Debrusk

No, I would not buy out Elvis. The penalty is the worst in 2026-27 at $2,925,000, when cap space will be extremely critical.

Offer sheets do not happen, and if they did, Raymond is a poor choice at that cost.

It's a fine offer for Jenner, but what do more futures do for an org who's already in the top three in pools heading into this draft? Cheap, useful, actually good vets like Jenner are more important at this stage than more futures.

Negative chance that Boston would ever entertain acquiring Laine, even for peanuts. He is the polar opposite of every organizational philosophy the Bruins have or have ever had.

Why trade Laine at his lowest value? we should hang on to him. put him on a line with Johnny and Fantilli and hope they can get going under a competent coach

That Laine trade is certainly a trade.

As for Elvis, no I would not buy him out. CBJ arent likely to be in such a cap-crunch that it would be necessary. My feeling is still Elvis for Campbell, 1-for-1. Mutual interest on reclamation projects, CBJ save a good chunk of actual dollars, and if it still doesnt work out, we at least know he'll clear waivers. Otherwise, I'm just not sure I'd want CBJ to pay the price to move Elvis, who has looked markedly better this year, but markedly better still amounts to mediocre.

No. The Jackets have no need to make cap space at the moment. They don't have any potentially pressing contract negotiations until after Laine expires and if they really need to they can trade Elvis with a minor retention going into 2026-27.

He wont , not in CBJ
Not his Style of Hockey

MTL though he could be a fit with Roy on 2nd with Newhook
That said we'd have to send back Anderson or Gally in any deal along with CGY's 1st
So what about a 1st, 3rd , Gally for Laine

He had his two best seasons in terms of point rate in Columbus and he developed a competent defensive game there. There's nothing to suggest he would be any better in Montreal.

Has he? ive seen streaks here and there but no i havent noticed.
I just see a declining goal scorer with decling numbers basically since his first 2 seasons
He's 25 , overpayed and struggling to even be a consistent Goal Scorer now
He can play Elite hockey he just doesnt do it shift to shift or day to day

I compare him to Kotkanemi as he might live up to his potential some day
It just wont be here in this system or else it woulda showed signs already
TBH like WPG likes to play a physical game limiting the times they chase the puck.
MTL is all Speed and Transition hockey. Or D handle most of the rough stuff down low infront of our Goalie.
Outside that there's few Pezzetta's in the line up and plenty of Newhook's

CBJ can keep him 100% but you gotta do something as Johnny Hockey and Laine went south in hopes of Winning im sure.
I know not all teams are a great fit for players they sign so it happens and he's just as likely to continue that decline here too
Each year he scores a little less and thats an issue when he's defined by his offense leagely

We all got out Josh Andersons though
Guys we love even when they decline as we have faith they'll turn it around

He was a PPG player a couple years ago, which is the best point rate hes ever gotten in his career. Last year he was just a little less than that at .95 points per game. So the decline is being extremely over stated. Its absolutely reasonable to think after coming back from the player assistance program and having a competent coach will lead to him bouncing back. The Jackets havent had a consistent system since he came here, so i dont think we could even know if he would fit in the future system that a new coach would implement.

We already had Josh Anderson, we got rid of him instead of signing him to a contract he could never live up to.

Then he got injured
Then his Goal Scoring went down
Then he got injured
Then his Goal Scoring went dow. . .

Are we catching on to the pattern here?
WPG/CBJ play Physical Tough Playoff Hockey 82 games
How's that been on Laine?

MTL plays more of a "Floater " style for his type of players or "The Pacioretty Play"
We're more about Speed, Transition and Drawing Penalties off big hits.
Laine will be a lot less beat up in MTL which is saying something lol

But you held onto Anderson until you got no value in return was the point i was making by closing my statement with it to reflect on

Dude, give it up. You're debating with emotion and your gut and zero facts. He had covid a couple times, his dad died, he had a weird elbow hyperextension, he strained his tricep practicing faceoffs too much, he took a dirty high hit in the final seconds of a game that was essentially over, he took a slewfoot and fell awkwardly, and now he's in the player assistance program. These things don't go away with a change of scenery. Despite all that **** he scored at a 38 goal/ 82 point pace and a 33 goal/ 78 point pace in his last two seasons. He has been just as good or better than he ever was in Winnipeg.

The Jackets also haven't been nearly the kind of physical team they were under Torts in years. They're a team that plays with speed and transition offense. Their biggest shortcomings are their abysmal special teams and their defensive play. Trading away a player like Laine who can actually contribute on a PP would be silly.

Per NHL Edge:

CBJ
22+ mph bursts CBJ: 80 League: 64 Percentile: 87th
20-22 mph bursts CBJ: 1,580 League: 1,299 Percentile: 93rd
18-20 mph bursts CBJ: 6,531 League: 5,794 Percentile: 96th

MTL
22+ mph bursts MTL: 75 League: 64 Percentile: 79th
20-22 mph bursts MTL: 1,461 League: 1,299 Percentile: 84th
18-20 mph bursts MTL: 5,944 League: 5,794 Percentile: 68th

Columbus is measurably one of the fastest teams in the league, so much so that Laine (who is below the 50th percentile in all those metrics) is actually one of the slower players on one of the fastest transition teams in the league. So, technically, you may be right for exactly the wrong reasons.

CBJ don't need to buy out Elvis until we need the cap space or roster spot, which isn't this season. There's also a nonzero chance someone trades for him in the offseason looking for a new starter with a very low acquisition cost.

Boone isn't going anywhere, even if that is a good offer.

No reason to sell low on Laine, who's still young and has tons of upside, until (again) we need the roster spot or cap space, which isn't this upcoming season.

I love Boone Jenner and I would love him on this team, but you’ve got to take at least one first round asset out of that deal. Either Savoie is not in it or the first round pick isn’t. That would be a pretty good deal for Columbus because they aren’t really going anywhere yet. Typically fans expect to get more in trades for players they like than they end up getting if that player gets moved. This is another one of those kind of situations.

Savoie and a 2nd? Didn’t put as much thought into from the Buffalo side other than there being pressure on KA to make the playoffs

I think the new GM in CBJ will want to make a big move and Jenner is probably their biggest chip

Ummmmm....are we talking 5 years ago before Laine was even here?
Claiming that this CBJ team (or really any outside of maybe Laine's 1st year here) plays "physical tough playoff hockey" shows a complete lack of knowledge. Like, no disrespect....but just don't talk about things you clearly aren't educated on, because you're just making things up.
