I think Jeannot will have a strong bounce back year but this price seems pretty steep for a two-year deal. I'm guessing he had a really strong arbitration case based off his 21/22 year

Dumb contract. For this AAV, it should have been 3-4 years.

If he keeps sucking, it's an overpay. If he blows up, he'll take JBB to the cleaner's in just 2 years time. No way to come out of this with a W for the Bolts on this contract.

Why are they paying him as if he had a 19.4 shooting % last year too tho... seems a little crazy to pay someone as if they had a good year when they didn't. Should be sub 2m for sure.

It’s crazy how many good players Tampa Bay has had to give up bc of the flat cap

I know Tampa gets (rightfully) dunked on for the Jeannot trade, but I still like the player. 2.6 is a little rich considering what he did in Tampa, but I'm sure he'll turn it around. He's got the toolset to be a very effective power forward and should get a decent opportunity with Killorn's departure. I think he will rebound and be an effective contributor for the Bolts

This is a classic example of a GM doubling down on a bad trade by overpaying the player to hopefully justify the trade a little more.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. What am I missing here? This seems like the stupidest contract of all time. Should I call Julien and ask for a contract too?

Should have been a copycat contract of Dubas signing Engvall's 2nd contract range ($2.25 million).

Lots of hyperbole on this contract. It is a fair contract for a physical middle 6 winger that has 25 goal scoring upside. Dunk on the trade all you want but this contract is totally fair and is no way an "overpay".

It's not like he got an Anthony Mantha type deal here.

Mathieu Joseph got $2.95 mil from Ottawa last year
David Kampf got $2.4 million in Toronto
Morgan Geekie got $2 million from a cap-strapped Bruins team
Zemgus Girgensons got $2.5 million from Buffalo while Victor Oloffson got $4,750,000 last year for being a ~25 goal scorer
Daniel Sprong and Klim Kostin got $2 million each from Detroit
Kasperi Kapanen makes $3.2 million

Tanner Jeannot is a great value at $2.6 million under any circumstance compared to those players above.

I agree with you that the AAV is not that bad. However, if I was a Bolts fan I would have wanted at least 3 years considering the price they paid to acquire him. I do think this player will rebound next year. His true potential is to be a Tom Wilson type player. Time will tell if he is more like Wilson or if he is more like Maroon or Deslauriers.

He was on pace for 16 points with the Bolts last season and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. If he doesn't bounce back, they will be paying him $2 million to sit in the pressbox. How many of the players you mentioned were healthy scratches in the playoffs the year before they signed these contracts?

Kampf came with more term, less AAV, more points, and plays the PK.

But I guess Jeannot is big.

Not that much bigger than Kampf but way more physical and he fights which the Lightning lost with Maroon/Perry gone.

Understood but the Lightning probably tried to offer more term but they couldn't raise the AAV much more due to their cap situation (if they would have dumped P. Myers maybe they could have). He is worth $3.2 range AAV on a 3-4 year deal but they could not even go that high.

Brandon Hagel also struggled when he initially went to Tampa then lit fire after acclimating; I wouldn't bet Tanner out yet. There is an open winger spot next to Cirelli-Hagel and it is pretty much up for grabs between Jeannot and Sheary

I wanted Nick Paul the year before and Tanner Jeannot last year for my Avs 3rd line but the Bolts swooped in both times.

When Colton signs for less than this, this whole Jeannot situation is approaching a fire-able offense. I somewhat defended JBB because I was assuming part of the idea here involved signing Jeannot for a long-term low-AAV deal. Somehow the AAV doubled and the term halved so there’s no positive here at all anymore. If Colton doesn’t make a lot more than this, then we actually just paid four draft picks (net because we recovered one with Colton), to make the team clearly and objectively worse. This is completely and utterly indefensible.

In his defense, he wasn’t really a healthy scratch…

I think this drives Colton's number up even further. I'm expecting around 3.8-4 now.
