Thank goodness that the Caps are fielding a team with an AHL defense against the one team in the league that fields an AHL offense

I’m tired of Sheary on the first line, give Mantha some minutes

I think Sheary’s earned his 1st line time, but Mantha on line 1 wouldn’t be bad either.

That Puljijarvi interview on sports net is rough

“Twenty games in and I have one goal. It’s sad,” Puljujarvi told Finnish journalist Tommi Seppälä, of YLE news agency, on Tuesday evening. “I’ve been thinking a lot how to do things differently. Right now, I just don’t have the answer.”

In a wide-ranging interview with Finland’s national broadcaster, Puljujärvi told the veteran reporter Seppälä that he isn’t sure if the National Hockey League is the place for him anymore. “Of course I’d like to be a productive top-line player,” Puljujärvi said in his native Finnish, as translated by Seppälä. “But right now, it looks like I can't do that in NHL. Maybe some other league.”

Feels like Jesse getting drafted at #4 is weighing heavily on him and also how we in the hockey community perceive him.
If he were drafted ten spots lower it would be kinda alright having a guy making 3m as an RFA with a great defensive mind and overall possession game (but severely lacking finishing).

I'm a big fan of his and I'd love for the Devils to pick Jesse up on a cheap deal in the offseason should he not get qualified.
Perhaps just getting him out of Edmonton could do him and his career a ton of good.

Playing with standings projections.

I know its not wise to draw straight lines...but here are current point pace for each team

Metropolitan 2022-23 (pace as of 12/7)
New Jersey.....136 *
Carolina..........107 *
Pittsburgh......101 *
NY Islanders....97 *
NY Rangers......88
Washington.....79
Philadelphia....73
Columbus........62

Atlantic 2022-23 (pace as of 12/7)
Boston...........140 *
Toronto.........115 *
Detroit...........102 *
Tampa Bay....102 *
Florida.............88
Montreal.........88
Buffalo............75
Ottawa............69

Central 2022-23 (pace as of 12/7)
Winnipeg .....113 *
Dallas............104 *
Minnesota......96 *
Colorado........96 *
Nashville.........93 *
St Louis...........76
Arizona...........64
Chicago..........59

Pacific 2022-23 (pace as of 12/7)
Vegas ............118 *
Seattle...........108 *
Los Angeles....94 *
Edmonton......88
Calgary...........89
Vancouver.....79
San Jose.........59
Anaheim........52

(* playoffs)

The record for most points, btw, is 132
1. MTL 1976-77 132
2. DET 1995-96 131
3. MTL 1977-78 129
4. TBL 2018-19 128
5. MTL 1976-76 127

Boston is on pace for 140

On Dec 7 last year, here is where teams were (first number), and where they ended up (+/- Dec 7 pace)

Metropolitan 2021-22
NYR...126 110 (-16)
WAS...120 100 (-20)
CAR....120 116 (-4)
PIT........95 103 (+8)
CBJ.......89 81 (-8)
NJD......82 63 (-19)
PHI......71 61 (-10)
NYI.......66 84 (+18)

Atlantic 2021-22
FLA.....125 122 (-3)
TBL.....118 110 (-8)
TOR.....115 115 (+0)
BOS.......98 107 (+9)
DET........91 74 (-17)
BUF.......62 75 (+13)
OTT.......51 73 (+22)
MTL.......46 55 (+9)

Central 2021-22
MIN.....121 113 (-8)
COL.....104 119 (+15)
DAL.....104 98 (-6)
STL.......98 109 (+11)
NSH.....95 97 (+2)
WPG.....92 89 (-3)
CHI.......66 68 (+2)
ARI........39 57 (+18)

Pacific 2021-22
CGY.....110 111 (+1)
EDM....109 104 (-5)
ANA.....100 76 (-24)
VGK.......96 94 (-2)
SJS .........91 77 (-14)
LAK........82 99 (+17)
SEA........66 60 (-6)
VAN........63 92 (+29)

14 of the 16 playoff spots remaining the same (ANA and VGK fell out, NSH and LAK got in)
Every team on pace for 101 pts or higher made playoffs.
15 of the 16 teams that eventually made playoffs were on pace for at least 95 points on 12/7/2021 (exception being LAK who were on pace for 82)

If same holds for 2022-23, then we probably have at least 14 of the playoff teams identified.

(Now, lets see if there will be first-mover advantage for draft position. Let the tank begin!)

With the magic of our system probs more than 50% but it depends on certain factors and confidence. As if Mikheyev was still around got a feeling Engvall would be so much better rn. But hey we have seen Ennis and Chucky recoup their careers here. And we are restarting Gaudette's down in the AHL where his development is going right back on track. So there is a chance.

Money puck has buffalo over 50% to make the playoffs and by advanced statistics the 9th best team in the league finishing with 92.5 points. Which is 17.5 higher than there current pace. Honestly quite surprising, obviously if the sabres didn't lose 8straight it would be a completely different outlook for them right now. Basically Buffalo is last year's LAK.
