MacKinnon's extension to me kind of suggests Girard could be on the move as if Byram and Newhook have strong seasons that 13mill in cap gonna get tight fast. Moving him at least gives them flexibility and with his contract and age should expect a massive return

MacKinnon certainly could've gotten more, he easily could've leveraged the fact that the cap would go up to get 13+, good deal for the Avs

Not at all. If he had gone for $13.5m or more then it would have been difficult.

Now we can get each of their extensions done soon and in good AAV ballparks. +/- $3 million for Byram and slightly less for Newhook. Both probably 2 or 3 years

My suspicions is once the extension kicks in Girard could be off to a team needing a RD like Ottawa

i love the idea but timing makes it difficult.
Since Severson's ufa the trade would have to go down pre TDL, where it wouldn't make sense for Colorado to move Girard for futures ahead of the playoffs (I take it we're all assuming the Avs make the playoffs).
I suppose MacFarland could flip those futures in another trade for a roster piece but adding another moving part to that environment probably makes the entire idea untenable.
Maybe something on the Sens roster of equal value to Severson and Girard could be moved instead of futures, any suggestions @csick ?
