<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hurricanes_WPG</b></div><div>From most confident to least confident

Avalanche over Predators in 4 games. Juuse Saros is out, and the Avs will have no trouble scoring against Connor Ingram/David Rittich
Flames over Stars in 5 games. Markstrom is much better than Oettinger, and the Flames' skaters (Lindholm, Backlund, et al) will be able to shut down Dallas' only reliable offence (Pavelski-Hintz-Robertson)
Panthers over Capitals in 5 games. The Caps' 6 defenders will not be able to hold the Panthers insane top 9. I wouldn't be stunned if goaltending flips this, weither through Bobrovsky faltering or one of the Caps' guys stealing it.

Oilers over Kings in 6 games. Assuming Mike Smith doesn't fall apart like last playoffs, the Oilers actually have enough scoring depth to make a run. That's a big assumption though
Lightning over Leafs in 7 games. Andrei Vasilevskiy &gt;&gt;&gt; Jack Campbell, and that's going to be the difference in a close series.
Carolina over Boston in 6 games. The Hurricanes had one of the best PKs of all time, and they're going to need it very frequently in a series against Boston. Goaltending is also a question for the Hurricanes, as Frederik Andersen will not be able to start Game 1. I think that Raanta is quite underrated, so the Canes will be fine (copium)

Blues over Wild in 7 games. The Blues have superior depth, and Ryan O'Reilly's checking line should be able to slow down Kaprizov enough for the Blues to prevail. Fleury is the X-factor though, who could steal the series easily.
Rangers over Penguins in 6 games. The Rangers do have the better team on paper, but something tells me it's all going to crash down spectacularly.... I'm really not confident in this one</div></div>

Only went 2-for-8 in series lengths, some of my reasons turned out to not happen (hi Jake Oettinger), but I will take an 8-for-8 first round any season! Now if only NHL bracket challenge submissions weren't broken when I tried to submit....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div>Yea, i'd say Waddell broke those 2 rules. </div></div>
Waddell did not break either of the rules that I mentioned. Perhaps the extension was negotiated while Kotkaniemi was still a free agent, but it was not signed until after January 1 so nothing is amiss there, and as Waddell is not currently under an NHL standard player contract, he could not possibly have broken the second rule, which deals with active players trying to recruit others to join their team (ie you can't be out golfing with another team's player and try to get them to join your team).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div>
When he offer sheeted KK, they offered a 1 year deal, but also negociated a 8 years extension negociated the same day. Laraque and Friedman talked about that 2 days after the offer sheet was signed. They knew there was an illegal extension attached to that 1 year offer sheet. </div></div>

Yes, it was common knowledge that a lower-money extension was in the works when the offer sheet was signed, though the belief at the time was that the extension would be about 4 years. Because nothing was officially signed until after January 1, that means that nothing illegal happened as far as I can tell.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div> Also, the fact that they offered 6,1M X 1 year lowered the compensation. If the offer sheet had been 4,8M X 7 years, Canes would have had to add a 2nd to the compensation, as the total would be divided by 5 years, making it an average of 6,7M a year. </div></div> But the offer sheet wasn't 4.8x7, the offer sheet was 6.1x1. That's not relevant to the situation at all, as the extension was signed long after the offer sheet had been resolved

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div> It's not illegal to talk extension with a FA. It's illegal to send a 1 year offer sheet, and have a 8 years extension negociated the same day.</div></div>

It's not illegal to "talk extension", but it is illegal to negotiate an extension? What exactly is the difference between talking extension and negotiating an extension?

Also, where does it say that negotiating but not signing an extension is illegal? I still can't find that rule anywhere
