Mmm Kucherov aint better than Matthews as they rn are in the same caliber with Matthews having the edge do to his age and status as a center. Rn you could argue both are the same as one plays center and one plays wing and unless they play the same position you really cant compare the two properly as centers often have it harder than wings. If we go by scoring, shot and point production both excel in that role with Matthews having a slight advantage in his shot. That and teams often want top 6 centers more so than wings as star strutted centers are not as common as they used to be. Will give you Point over Marner and Hedman over Rielly, Stamkos and Tavares are the same except they use different offensive tools. Cant really compare a goalie to a forward as one saves pucks while the other scores and generates offense. Its like comparing a pitcher to an outfielder in baseball just does not work.

One groups won 2 cups and the other group hasn’t lol. We’ll see how they do this season specifically, I don’t see us winning a cup in the next 3 years if we haven’t made it past the first round. If they make a run past the 1st and 2nd rounds, put them in the conversation with the islanders oooohhh I could smell a cup but these 1st round outs it’s hard to give credit

Huh? Kucherov is pretty clearly the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league when he’s healthy (McDavid one, MacKinnon probably 2nd). He has the most points in a season of anyone in like 25 years. He has 30 points in back to back playoffs, and the only other two guys to do that are the two greatest players of all time, and led his team to 2 cups. Kind of a joke he doesn’t have a Conn Smythe, but he has a Hart, Lindsay, and Art Ross. And while it’s hard to compare a goalie to a forward, there’s simply no argument that Nylander is anywhere near as valuable as Vasi. I would take Vasi over any Leaf not named Matthews without a second thought. The Tampa group overall is just overall better, more balanced, more experienced in the playoffs, and then cheaper as well.

Like what happened with Washington a breakout will come. People were saying the same thing about Ovie, Kuznetsov, and Backstrom.

Whats being seen now in Toronto was being seen by the Caps back in 2017-2018 and fans were starting to lose their patience heck this reporter went on a rant remind you of anything.

c5r9y8Q.jpeg

And at times during the run it looked scary as Columbus and Tampa looked on the verge of ruining the run but they rallied past it. Even in between those two you had one of the most dreaded matchups in the second round which might as well been a 1st round knock out for the caps. That matchup was with the Penguins who often had fun against them

Couldn't find the tweets about caps fans panicking about facing penguins for the millionth time in the second round as they were ready for a loss and lets be real if they lost that series major changes were coming.

Heck if we go to Tampa the rally for the 2 cups came after tying an NHL record then getting embarrassed by Columbus in round 1 (check urinating trees video = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz3lq6HUdGc and listen to what was said "they aint winning with this core" but they did it a year later and then again in less than a year.)

Tampa Big 5 (Kucherov, Stammer, Point, Hedman, Vasy) = $45M
Toronto Big 5 (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly) = $48M

Yeah but the difference is the Caps made the 2nd round every year. Their comparison would be the Avs. Tampa lost a cup final and 2 conference finals. Their comparison would be the Knights. Those teams should break through and win the cup if we look at recent history. Teams that lose in the 1st round every year break... apart and miss the playoffs. They don't break through to win cups. Especially not with the existing mindset in the Toronto locker room. They need some sort of actual motivation, not all this stuff they're pretending is good motivation. They're complacent and used to getting what they want. They don't have a fiery passion and desire to win, which was Ovie's identity throughout the Caps's bad times.

The record for longest point streak to start a season is 24 games, so they’re still a long way away from that.

Marner, Matthews and Nylander are all going to be more expensive in 3 years. Kucherov, Point, Vasy, Hedman and Stamkos are all on their "big contract"

What are Point and Kucherov's 9.5 going to look like next to the next Matthews, Marner, Nylander contracts?

Interesting.

Unless they win the cup, at least one and probably 2 of them are leaving so there's that.

Well nobody is making more than Mcdavid whose rn making 12.5mill. Unless Arizona decides to try and offer Matthews 18mill got a feeling his next contract will be 12-12.5mill

So if we go by that Matthews will probs get a slight raise 12-12.5 mill, Marner will probs make less than what he currently got on his next deal unless he explodes productively 9.25mill, Nylander 8.5-9mill, So in the end only Matthews will be making than Kucherov but hes worth every penny.
