It's great to see Montour get out of Buffalo. He deserves it. Montour is not bad. Most of those analytics are dumb and Buffalo ruined his last few years. I think he's definitely worth a 3rd even if he's just a rental.
Before people start to say that Buffalo "fleeced" us, remember that
1. Montour is a UFA
2. We gave up a 3rd round pick, big deal
3. Its ****ing buffalo man
4. He is better than Stralman

Buffalo effect be damned, the Panthers got a defenseman that has shown he can play 20min per night for a mid-round pick. They bought low and are going to benefit as Montour's minutes decrease and he plays on an actual NHL team.
Not sure why people or voting Florida here. Montour is terrible and the Sabres win by even getting a 3rd out of him.
Name recognition is a helluva drug. His name was hyped so god damn hard a few years ago and it stuck with some people. Kyle Turris is another great example of this.
There's no way Florida loses this trade. Even if Montour plays bad, they win this. A 3rd for a guy who can play top 4 minutes and is motivated to play not in Buffalo.

Being "able to play 20 mins" means literally nothing if you completely suck for those 20 minutes.

I can't believe people are so blinded by those stats. Look at the team he is on, even their hardest working, best players will have horrid analytics. Let's see him in Florida before judging.

Anyone can play 20 minutes a night, doesn't mean they should

I really think we're underestimating how much the Sabres had to do with how poor his numbers are. We're looking at a historically bad team. He's far from being the worst defender in the league; his numbers should level out in a more functional environment.

He was bad pre-Sabres. He was pretty good for Anaheim for a while but fell off hard the year he was traded to Buffalo. And yes, before the trade.

I don't think so. Other Buffalo D men have good numbers on the same team. Montour has always had bad numbers.
