Pierre McGuire Crazy Cap 61M

Créé par: Pens3lieve
Équipe: 2020-21 Penguins de Pittsburgh
Date de création initiale: 14 avr. 2020
Publié: 14 avr. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Yeah that's not possible. I lowered RFA contracts, traded away JJ and Bjugstad, compliance bought out Hornqvist, and even swapped Zucker for Rakell to Lower the cap hit. McGuire is nuts. Never gonna happen.

vote in the poll, and how crazy/impossible is this? McGuire said the cap might go down 25-40%. this is an example of how impossible it is to go down just 25%. never gonna happen.

Pierre McGuire said in an interview the cap might go down 25-40%. this illustrated how impossible it is for that to happen for the team next year.

Ahh gotcha. Yeah even besides this whole thing, there is a reason McGuire is no longer in the NHL. He's an encyclopedia of hockey knowledge and back in the day when the internet wasn't around, he was a valuable person by your side but now he is become obsolete. His hockey knowledge has been surpassed by his understanding of where the game is now. He's great for explaining things to people who have no idea of how hockey and sports are run so he comes off as a real smart cookie but the minute you get to a certain level his takes are absolutely ridiculous.

It would LITERALLY be impossible for the league to create a mandatory cap decrease to those numbers. The total amount of guaranteed contracts currently in the NHL would already probably surpass that and if it doesn't, would certainly surpass it with just signing the one best UFA/RFA player on each team and at the bare minimum they would realistically be willing to sign for too. Players would have to agree to rollbacks, CBO's and other mechanics to make that work.... it just doesn't make sense.

What a silly take by Pierre....

If the cap dropped by 25-40%, all current contracts would be subject to rollbacks so that teams could stay within the upper limits. The NHL won't expect teams to stay within a $60M limit with just 1 CBO.

yeah that's insane. The thing is with that is that even if the higher paying teams trading away their high cap hits, they don't just disappear; then the other team is dealing with cap issues then. Basically the league would turn into a circus act trying to balance everyones cap hits, so unless if there's somehow a decrease in a cap hit or something idk what he's on about.

I really hope that doesn't happen. As is I feel like some teams are going through serious cap hell and cutting down cap will discourage large deals to happen.

That makes a little more sense, but still I don't want it to happen. Hope it doesn't mess with Sid's superstitions as he's making $8.7M...

If they did a significant reduction like this, it would be accompanied by rollbacks of current salaries like they did with the original salary cap season in 2005-06. All current contract values would take a 25-40% reduction. Would be a tough sell to the NHLPA to get them to accept significant rollbacks, but might be preferable to allowing the players to keep their current salaries and lose the money to escrow instead.

Don't forget, the players only get 50% of revenues, whether it comes off the front in reduction of salary or off the back through escrow, they're not entitled to $1 over 50% of league revenues. If that is down 40% due to the pandemic, then it might be preferable for them to accept the reduction in salaries.

There is NO WAY this could happen, McGuire is full of poo poo.

States & countries would inject money into teams to make them keep running bf this would happen.

** anyways - does it really matter ?? This is looking worse & worse for the long term everyday this goes on & It looks like there wont be any games played till summer of 2021 at the very earliest, unless there is a vaccine

If it drops that far, they'd have to do a rollback on salaries AND 2 CBO's.

Bring back hockey with no fans in 1 area where everyone is tested. Have games running all day long. Only have them available on center ice with no regional restrictions. Charge a bit extra to make up some difference. Boom

I swear there’s so many places in the states where they can do sports and be pretty isolated.
