I don’t know i had a long talk with a user and when you are drafted in the top 3 you are supposed to be a point per game player. So i just want to have external opinion.
From my perspective a players under 21-22 is still a prospect even if he played three full season. The hockey players are drafted so young that sometime people forgot that they are still kids. In football the players that are drafted are all physically mature. That have a huge impact on their game. A lot of them where not even starters in college at 18 or 19 years old.

Jesperi has regressed in his second year... i know a lot of people are labeling him a bust, but hes still very young and has time to turn it around. Hughes and kakko have only played half a year and shouldn't be judged that much yet.

Kotkaniemi isn't a bust. The reason he gets so much **** is because of who was drafted after him. Tkachuk, Hughes and Zadina were all viewed as higher upside players.

Yah he is not a bust, that is a stupid thing to say. All these guys are kids and they all develop at different periods.

If Claude Julien would stop using him with all the crappie winger maybe he would develop better. He have played most of is time with jordan weal, paul byron, cousins, lehkonen, peca, hudon. I am not surprised to see him having less success. Suzuki when he replace him at center haven’t register a point at 5 on 5 with weal and cousins. Weal is a terrible winger.

No such thing as a bust until second team or opportunity, even strome in Chicago may have fought off a full bust label.

Kotkeniemi isn't a bust, but he was picked about 3 to 7 spots too high. He will be fine. Comparing Hughes or Kappo it's clear those guys have more skill despite points which a lot of you fans think is all that matters in hockey.

One thing for sure is that he's not Pierre Luc Dubois as the Habs hope he would've been when they drafted him.

Not a bust. Hughes and Kakko definitely can't be categorised as a bust yet. Not even through a full year and not getting full minutes.

If Claud Julien played him with the top wingers he would have to play against the top centres in the league. If Kotkeniemi is not ready for that sort of challenge, it might hurt his development much worse than from him being sheltered from opponents he's not yet ready to consistently face.

Kappo Kakko is a RW while Kotkeniemi is a centre. If the Rangers had drafted a centre instead of the best overall player with the 2nd overall pick in last year draft, then you could compare Hughes and whom ever the centre that NYR drafted instead of Kakko. Montreal was drafting the highest rated centre in 2018 regardless of the talent of the players still on the draft board at number 3, no matter what. The Rangers this past year drafted the most talented player in Kakko with the 2nd overall pick instead of drafting out of a position of need.

When your line mates are Dale Weise and Nick Cousins, you're going to regress. If you watch him play, he's still creating tons of chances. Once he was given Poehling and Lehkonen as line mates, he started producing again.

You bring yo a good point, Kotk has had better numbers in his 18 yr old season than Hughes and Kakko. Kk definitely isn’t a bust, and the people who say he is r wrong, I wouldn’t worry ab him. The sophomore slump happens to many players
