If Chytil Is Going To Be On LTIR Past The Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Then we're not dealing with the Rangers. There are plenty of teams out there looking for help down the middle and lesser players than Henrique have gone for more at the TDL in recent years. Henrique at sub 3 million AAV brings a 2nd all day.
As for Vatrano, with two seasons retention, the conversation starts after the 24 1st and builds from there, as we have absolutely no reason to move him for less. It's also disingenuous to claim that Vatrano is currently only worth what he's previously been payed for when he is on a career year (the year he played for the Rangers, he had a combined 18 goals across 71 games. He has 16 goals in 36 games this year), and it's pretty obvious that you know it's disingenuous, because you but him on the top line.</div></div>
I don’t believe that there will be many teams looking to trade for Vatrano and Henrique. Both players are not in the rebuilding Ducks future plans. Lots of other role players for the Rangers to choose from.
I think the Ducks will take what they could get in trade and no team is offering a lot for these two role players because there’s many other teams with similar role players that will trade them for market value.

Henrique is a UFA at the end of the year and is a throw in for Vatrano. Vatrano has put up similar scoring numbers and wasn’t worth more that a 4th round pick. Also Vatrano is a UFA the season after next and at his age, at this point in the rebuild, it makes more sense to trade Vatrano then resign him or lose him for nothing.
There are many other players to trade for of similar talent and that keeps the price of these 2 players to a minimum. And Drury would never trade Kakko for role players.

Thank you for your comment. The Rangers are in no way trading Othmann for players such as these. At most the Rangers trade a 2nd and a 4th (With salary retention) for Vatrano. Also I don’t believe the Ducks get more than a 3rd (even with salary retention), for Henrique.

Thank you for your comment. I personally believe that Vatrano is worth a 3rd round pick in trade. Past history has the Rangers previously trading a 4th round pick to FLA when Vatrano was putting up similar point totals.
Adam Henrique I don’t believe is worth more than a 3rd round pick, maybe no more than a 4th.
Throw in a 3rd round pick for salary retention and add in the fact that there’s lots of other players available to choose from at the Trade Deadline that would be more appealing to other teams... I believe this is a fair deal with picks 2-3-4 instead of 3 3rd round picks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warpbox</b></div><div>Hasn’t he said he won’t show up for training camp?</div></div>
I’m sure if Drury assures Lundkvist a spot on the team that he will report to training camp. European players like Lundkvist have the opportunity to earn big money in salary playing in their home countries league. Thus the idea of playing in the AHL only $70,000 instead of making $925,000 in the NHL, is completely unacceptable.

Miller is not a top 15 scorer and being a good player at his age for only the last two and a half years is most certainly not the measure of consistency.
Besides that the Rangers don’t have the cap space next season to acquire Miller and resign Strome. So the Rangers would also be indirectly including Strome in your trade proposal as well. Not to mention the Rangers are not trading Schneider, unless a team ridiculously overpays for him.

If Montreal wins the draft lottery and if Montreal prefers their home town guy over Shane Wright, the Rangers I believe would make this trade. Not that Wright is any better than Lafreniere, but reuniting Wright with Othmann would be too good of an opportunity for the Rangers to let pass by.

Also, you can get Kravtsov using only Tampa's 2nd, based on the trade for Lias Andersson.
https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/lias-andersson</div></div>
There’s a much better chance of Kravtsov playing for the Rangers when his KHL season concludes than the Rangers trading him for just a 2nd round pick.
The only way I could see Drury trading Kravtsov for just a 2nd is maybe if it’s day two of this year’s draft and a certain player who’s certain to be dominant in the NHL, drops in the draft to the 2nd round. As was the case when Lias Andersson was traded on the 2nd day of the draft when Will Cuylle dropped in the draft.
The major difference between Andersson and Kravtsov is that Kravtsov could play on the Rangers top 9 right now. When Andersson went back to the SHL, he was very far down on the depth chart and had very little chance of playing for the Rangers.
I hope the Rangers and Kravtsov can patch things up and he plays for the Rangers after his KHL teams season ends. Maybe Drury promises to never send him down to the AHL again? Though after this season Kravtsov would have to clear waivers anyhow.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>What do the Rangers need then?</div></div>
What the Rangers need is a good young center still on their ELC. Like for example one of the many center prospects LA has in their organisation / system.
The Rangers now realise that Strome is a top 6 line center, regardless of if he’s on a line with Panarin or not. But in order to resign him, the Rangers need to shed some salary. Which means Chytil (and some others) might be traded (Probably after the conclusion of the season) to clear cap room. So the Rangers would be looking for a skilled center still on his ELC that might be able to make the NHL team next season.
The Rangers could use a skilled forward and a reliable LD that’s a pending UFA, but it’s not a major priority that’s worth trading anything lower than a 5th ( maybe 4th) round pick in exchange for. So to make a short story long (though you did ask what the Rangers want), maybe the Rangers trade players like Chytil, Georgiev, and Nemeth for a skilled center(s) still on their ELC, maybe a backup goalie to replace Georgiev, maybe a center who’s good at winning face-offs, or maybe some draft picks?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>I don't see the pegulas agreeing to add salary unless something pretty nice is coming back, like a short term cap dump for a first. Not that it should cost the rangers that much to get rid of nemeth, but we wouldn't be buying, and it's only worse that he plays left d, a position where we have more guys than spots to play them, starting next year. I don't see many teams taking on salary on the cheap.</div></div>
Nemeth can play LD & RD and is somewhat serviceable. He at least does a good job of physically covering opponents around the net. Though sometimes he unfortunately checks players into the goalie from time to time. Which is not a particularly good way to make oneself popular amongst the fan base.
The Rangers wouldn’t mind keeping Nemeth for the duration of his contract, they just have to shred his $2.5 million salary off the cap in order to resign Strome. Also Nils Lundkvist, Zack Jones and Libor Hajek have outplayed Nemeth.
Anyway, Nemeth can play Left & Right-D and is a rather small cap dump of $1,375,000 if he’s sent to the AHL.

I agree and I like the lines you listed! If the young players can step up and the Strome, Goodrow, Laffy line is for real... it would be great for the Rangers to roll out three lines that are able to consistently put the puck in the net. Not to mention how well the 4th line is playing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>Heard they wanted a good prospect, but that's subjective anyway. Did not hear Kravtsov would report to AHL. Why not do it for the Rangers?</div></div>
Good question... From what I understand Kravtsov last season used his out clause to play in the KHL for a salary in the million(s) range instead of the low AHL salary. Allegedly Drury told the team that Kravtsov had quit the team and went back to Russia.
Kravtsov though had no out clause in his contract for this season. Kravtsov was under the impression from comments and actions made by the organization that he was going to make the team out of training camp...
When Buchnevich was traded, the Rangers claimed their rationale for trading him was the salary cap and also to give young players like Kakko, Laffy, and Kravtsov, more playing time. The Rangers also told Kravtsov not to attend rookie camp, which further gave the impression that he was going to make the NHL team.
But when the final cuts were made and the season opener against Wilson and Washington was around the corner. The Rangers went with Tinordi’s toughness in the starting line up and Lundkvist, Hunt, and Hajek, as the three scratched players.
Kravtsov was extremely unhappy and didn’t report to the AHL because he mistrusts Drury. Kravtsov stated at that point that he would report to another teams AHL team if traded, but not to the Rangers AHL affiliate.
He later said after the Rangers granted permission for him to play in the KHL this season that he hopes to be able to report to the Rangers after the KHL regular season or playoffs conclude. So there’s still hope that things can somehow get worked out, but most likely he’s traded unless every NHL team extremely low balls the Rangers in trade requests.
Hope that explains it.

If the supply market for a goalie is strong and the trade value for a goalie is weak and Hagg is worth a 4th round pick at the trade deadline, Hagg could be taken out of the trade and the trade offer could proceed without him.

Nemeth is a salary dump. But Georgiev has improved his trade value with the way he’s played when Shesterkin was just out of the lineup.
Georgiev is proving to be a much better goaltender when he’s starting most of the games or at least half the games. He’s also shown that he could perform well on a rebuilding team that gives up a lot of shots on goal.
I believe Georgiev would fetch a 2nd and a 3rd round picks on the open market or at least two 3rd round picks. With the Nemeth salary dump and two low value veteran throw in’s, I figure it becomes just a 3rd round pick.

Krav gets a fresh start with a rebuilding team, MTL (or AZN) gets a player who (with maturity) can develop into a star, and NYR exchange a headache for 2 good pick in a deep draft...problem solved all around!
Not doing the Chytl deal, though.</div></div>
Montreal and Arizona have the two worst records in the league. Very highly doubt that either of them would trade such a high 1st round pick. But both teams 2nd round pick is really like a late 1st round pick (#33 or #34) and their 3rd round picks are like a late 2nd round pick (#65 or #66) as well.
Not sure if the Rangers could get a 1st round pick for Chytil. I figure Drury will have to trade Chytil, Georgiev, and Nemeth in order to resign Strome. So I believe there’s a good chance again next season that Montreal will struggle and the 2nd round pick will be more like a late 1st round pick.
Paquette is just a low value UFA veteran throw in, but his game is more suited for the playoffs and could help the Rangers 3rd or 4th lines contribute in the postseason.

Georgiev is a significantly better starting goaltender than backup. His record and stats are much improved with increased playing time.
It’s my belief that Rangers will get a 2nd & 3rd round pick in exchange for Georgiev. At the very least two 3rds. So the only way that the Rangers trade Georgiev for only a 4th, is if Nemeth is also included in the deal. Though I believe some GM(s) would give a 3rd for Georgiev with Nemeth.
Personally I don’t see the Rangers trading Georgiev until after the season. Probably he’ll get traded around the time of the 2022 draft. Except maybe if a good “backup” goalie (that doesn’t need to be a starter or play close to half the games to be effective) is included in the deal, then I could see Georgiev being traded around this years trade deadline.

Rags future
I'd like to get a little more in trade for Chytil and Georgiev, but I would settle for a team like Arizona (or Ottawa or another team) to include Nemeth in the deal. I have a feeling in order for the Rangers to trade Nemeth, the Rangers would have to include a draft pick for another team to take him off the roster - maybe giving a 4th or 5th round pick instead of receiving a 6th. So I suppose I'd be happy with the return in the Chytil / Georgiev deal, if Nemeth's $2.5 mil contract is also taken off the books in the deal.
I'd like to sign Kakko for 5 years for around 3.5 mil, but cap room will be tight and the contract you suggest of 2.5 mil for 3 years might be the only way that Drury can go. Would love to sign Strome for 5 years at $5 mil, but I believe the contract will be closer to $6 mil over 5 years. But I agree with your future direction of the Rangers.

Your proposed Rangers deal is a better offer than the deal Buffalo finally accepted. Buffalo all along until the end wanted four players / draft picks equal to four 1st round picks, but settled for one late round 1st round pick and two players that I highly doubt any team would trade a first round pick for. The swapping of Buffalo's 3rd round pick for Vegas' 2nd round pick is like propaganda being sold to the Buffalo fans to make the trade look better than it actually was, because management believes the fans of Buffalo are not smart enough to realize that there's very little difference between a late 2nd round pick and an early 3rd round pick. Anyway, Just glad Eichel got traded and the Rangers didn't overpay! How frustrating though was it posting trades that Buffalo fans were completely offended with, that turned out to be much more in value than they actually received?

I would think Minnesota would want more than just a 2nd round pick for Greenway.
Not sure how much Greenway will demand in salary next season as an RFA, but I don’t believe the Rangers will be able to fit that amount under the salary cap.
Though getting Greenway as a rental for the rest of the season and then trading him during the offseason for draft picks and/or prospects would probably work out well for the Rangers.
