Description
Assuming the Salary Cap is at $88M, and the Canadiens Draft C Cayden Lindstrom 5th overall. I think they also try to sign a FA to short-term deal. Im thinking Marchessault, Perron, maybe DeBrusk, but only if they can move Armia I believe. Gallagher and Andy are not getting traded for sure. Lmk what you think about the Zegras trade. I do not think the Habs would ever offer Mailloux, Reinbacher, 5th OVR, or Huston for Zegras. I think 2 1st rounders work, and then Barron and Struble are nice young pieces to continue developing in ANA.

  1. Dvorak, Christian
Détails additionnels:
Hawks are still young and very inexperienced, and I think they can see this trade as strong asset management. Ideally this can get done before the start of training camp. Dvorak will offer some nice depth and veteran leadership to a young team. Dvorak's AAV is I suppose high for his production and play, however he could help the young guys in Chicago by playing the tough minutes against top opposition. His AAV can be retained for the rest of the season at the TDL, which can possibly get a couple high picks, maybe even a first depending on his production and what the market is like. Good deal for Habs to bring in some draft capital too, but they really gain something in cap flexibility here.

  1. Armia, Joel
Détails additionnels:
Armia's late season surge should be able to get him some decent trade value. He was not necessarily playing with the best players on the team, but a trip to the minors has seemingly helped him find his game. He has great puck possession skills, and pretty skilled. His cap hit is high for a player who was demoted to the minors several months ago, but he did reach 17 goals, and played his best hockey since the 2021 playoff run. The Blue Jackets who have money to spend, but also lack significant NHLer depth in their forward group, should be a buyer for Armia's services. It would probably cost a 4th rounder, maybe a 3rd, and if they have a bad season again, they can ship him out with a retained salary to a contender for assets. I think the Habs need to alleviate a roster spot more than salary at this point, and with Gallagher and Anderson going no where, Armia might be the guy that gets sent out.

  2. Struble, Jayden
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (WPG)
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
These 2 teams are perfect trade partners I find. Barron still has plenty of upside, even though he has not shown it in Montreal. He can help on the PP2 or PP1 in Anaheim, and has the ability to round out his game and establish himself on a young blueline in ANA. Struble is probably the more enticing Dman in this deal. He showed some great signs of a guy who can keep possession of the puck but also be physical, yet defend well. This season was a small sample size but people are encouraged that he can be a regular Dman in this league, and compliment a stronger Dman in a pairing. He is only going to get better too. The 2 picks here seem pretty fair. WPG 2024 1st is 18th overall, and CGY could turn into Florida's if the Flames finish pretty close to the bottom I believe. The Ducks could benefit from adding these Dmen, and these picks to potentially acquire other Dmen with them. Their forward group makes a guy like Zegras expendable, and I think he would thrive in Montreal with another young and up and coming team.

I appreciate the write-up, but man the one thing CBJ aren’t lacking is depth.

I think if anything the knights try to retain marchessault because he wont need as much term and the Habs overpay stephenson to hedge against potential injuries down the middle. Even if everyone is miraculously healthy all 82 games, you could shift newhook to the wing.

Sorry but Montreal and Anaheim are not perfect trade partners, both are in almost the exact same stage of their rebuild, both need 1 or 2 top 6 forwards and both have really, really deep LHD prospect pools. The players we would need to trade that Anaheim would have interest in are the players we don't want to trade.

Zegras is an impact piece, none of the pieces you are offering are even remotely close to impact pieces. We have room for Zegras in our top 6 even with all the other pieces we have there.

If you want Zegras, you need to send an impact piece the other way. That's Reinbacher or 5OA this draft. Otherwise we keep Zegras. He didn't regress this season, his season was derailed by injury, and he's been rounding out his defensive game just fine.

why not? you would possibly give up less than a 3rd, Im just optimistic. You ship him out at deadline at 2.25M and get a haul. Why wouldn't a team who could benefit from a veteran and him as an asset not want him??

Did not know CBJ depth all that well, tried to think of a place to off load Armia, but got you.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but Dvorak would not bring back a haul even at 2.25. He is little more than a warm body at the NHL level. No playoff team would look at him as a target for a deadline acquisition, and I doubt any non-playoff teams would take his contract without being compensated. Simply put, MTL probably isn't getting out of that contract without paying for it, and if they miraculously do get something, it's probably a 5th at best. Which is possible, Kent Hughes has pulled off crazier trades. But, unlikely.

Completely understand and Ik you aren't being mean I get it. If they wanna pay out of his contract with 1 year to go, I don't think Kent would pay up a super high pick to compensate. It really depends who is available at the TDL but I am sure teams would offer up like a 2nd at the very least for Dvorak if he produces, which he should on Chicago because other than Bedard, Kurashev, Nazar, Hall, who is gonna produce necessarily. My counter trade offer would be like Dvorak and a 4th that could become a 3rd with conditions, and the Habs would receive a 5th. Id say that would be fair, just depends if they want to do that deal.

Not a bad idea. I do agree, no way Marchessault is getting big money at more than 3 years given his age but maybe would want to go and play for his hometown team to end his career or smt like that. Not against Stephenson but I would think he could get a longer contract than Marchessault, and there is no reason for the Habs to tie up FA money like that rn. We have enough T6 guys, we need a superstar ideally. Not saying Marchessault is but I like his fit for a couple years better than a Stephenson.

Not a bad counter offer. I think "what hughes is willing to spend" depends on what he wants to do this summer in preparation for next season. If he has serious targets that are going to require cap space and feels pretty comfortable with where MTL's pipeline is, he might be ready to expel some of the dead weight and make serious additions. Not sure I would say MTL is at that point yet. But I am also not part of their front office or as familiar with their pipeline as someone who watches them every day. I think Dvorak is a guy you don't mind on your roster if you're rebuilding but you also aren't going out of your way to get him or help MTL with cap relief, either. So that is where my determination of that situation comes from. I always like the idea of bringing CHI boys home, though, even if it almost never works out.
