Hawks wouldn't pay anything to "dump" the Jones contract now. They aren't looking to move him and they certainly don't need the cap space. So I stand by my statements in my posts.

His contract may be bad by a million or two per year, but Jones is a very capable player. The OP has him on Montreal's top pair on his roster above. Gallagher and Pearson are shells of what they once were. Neither is close to worth what they are being paid.

Of all those UFA'S you've signed, Hawks are probably only in on Nylander or another proven top 6 forward. They won't being in any UFA LD. Definitely not $9m on Toews. A 3rd pair RD is a possibility. And maybe a couple of bottom 6 depth forwards. But maybe half the number of the 8 you signed. Gajan won't turn pro, but they'll try to sign Bassie. Moore also probably plays a 2nd year in college unless he has a Fantelli like freshman year. A 4th for Kurashev is probably fair based on his current level of play.

Kassian had 2 years left at a $3m cap hit. A 2nd and a 3rd seems about right. 4 years at a $5m cap hit for a guy with ONE SOLID SEASON as a starter? So in two seasons as a starting G - one good season and one bad season. Who know what he is going forward. Yep. Takes two 1st's or the equivalent to move that contract. If that's too steep, then the Oilers can keep him as you seem to want or find another team to pawn him off on.

I'm gonna disagree. For free, Hawks might take those two guys. Their both AHL depth. Martin is a veteran G who provides some added insurance when Mrazak inevitably gets hurt. Icehogs have 1 RD (Crevier). Even if Allan plays on the right side as expected, Woo can play on 3rd pair. I've got no issue adding adding experienced AHL depth to the Hogs roster if it costs Hawks nothing.

Hopefully the work Reichel supposedly did this summer pays off. He needs to be a whole lot better defensively and at the dot to stick at C. But if ever there was a time to try this, it's this season. Still think Reichel ends up on a W long term.

I'm not saying Hoglander isn't worth a 2nd. Hawks aren't at the point where they are spending 1st or 2nd rounders on players. Hoglander's size works against him as well from Hawks perspective. They seem to be favoring bigger body guys for their bottom 6.
