if you had told me in November that the Oilers would have 13 straight and have 21 wins in 24 games i would have told you stfu. I never had doubt that they weren't going to turn it around and get back in a playoff spot but never like this

Skinner with a .904? Lies!

What a night, Oilers set a Canadian franchise win streak record on hockey day in Canada with a gritty hard-fought win in a BOA in those nice HC jerseys with papa Oiler scoring the gwg and without a point from 97 or 29, and Holloway had three points in his first game back. And Skinner ties Fuhr's record with 10 straight wins. Plus the Condors beat the Wranglers 7-3

It’s amazing that no Habs team ever won more than 12 in a row. Oilers look amazing.

According to Pagnotta, the Oilers and Perry apparently have a deal in place that is expected to be announced later today

You’re right, it is going to be nuts. You should include Tampa in there too, the Leafs are only a point behind with 2 games in hand.

She's a pretty prominent Canadian pop star. Im sure you've heard her music on the radio. Seems to be a pretty big hockey fan (I believe she briefly dated Cole Sillinger), I think her inclusion in the All Star game was a great move by the league

At first I thought McRae was going to be former Blue Jay. Sounds like a baseball name.

Various rumor ppls thinking Lindholm to Vancouver is a thing and as a fan of a different team that’s scary to consider.

On Corey Perry: the more I think about it, I’m guessing what he did was very mild, probably less than threatening to end the bloodlines of various police officers while recovering from a car crash on private property -but- he was overpayed to come mentor Bedard and other young ones in the wake of toews kane departure. Chicago rightfully ejected him because he’s not worth 4 mil on the ice, and the 4 mil they were giving him was for off the ice, and if you’re getting paid 4 mil off the ice then you can’t cross those lines…that’s a lot of money to do a simple job. Ya gotta eject him. Is what it is.

But if Edmonton gets him at league min that’s different, super good, he’s worth that on the ice. Almost seems like the nhl needs to further modify 35+ contracts - as the majority of the pay is often for “intangibles”, as they won’t let this be precedent except that isn’t how it works - it is precedent whether they like it or not, so they’ll fight it, and the grey area of various “personal conduct” clauses will be fought over and settled.

I do not personally care about what Corey Perry did. But I’m interested to know what is established as an act that can void a 4 mil contract. I wonder how often a similar act occurs. If they settle and 50/50 the contract I wager the next wave of contracts have different, stronger, specific personal conduct language. This will absolutely be weaponized by a specific type of owner…..

Saw something random about him going to Edmonton, just working on final details. Rumor is a performance bonus contract with a base value keeping the pro-rated cap hit low.
Sounds like a not so good idea with Brown already having performance bonuses, unless they intend on moving salary somehow to prevent an overage this season.

Something happened cause I think right before he was cut Pat Morris reported that he was going to take a step away from the blackhawks to deal with a personal matter I guess to try to get a ahead of the news. It didn't play out like an unjust cutting like the Mike Richards situation with the LA kings. Perry talked to Bettman who basically cleared him? to join another team I'm sure he would've gotten the Blackhawks side of the story so it wasn't that bad probably not bad at all but it messed with the lockerroom im guessing

The NHLPA can appeal (even without Perry involved) to ensure that it does not set precedent (the appeal does not have to seek reversal of the termination).

And I believe a few reporters and former players who claim to know the story have said it was not a big deal or anything that would normally end in contract getting torn up.

Dallas has eight with 10g already (plus Benn).

I think STL had eight 20g a couple of years ago.

I’m guessing Detroit can go full Michael Phelps and set the new record at 14, altho that forces mo seider to not end at 8 or 9 goals. They’re gonna shatter the record, they’re gonna get the entire top9 / top 4 in the group. Worst case - getting to 12 means Patrick Kane has to score 3 goals…and that’s the furthest guy from 10 needed to set the record. They could set the record with 20 games remaining.

Unparalleled depth.

When stl did it 2 years ago iirc it was in the final week of the season, altho that’s memory, and I used to party.
And food for thought:

Detroit has an absurd pile of prospects with tooooons of high quality defenseman.

I hate to tell y’all.

Yzerman has done it again. He should be studied.

The Hronek trade, all the fleecings of stl (sad face emoji), the ability to sign guys for cheap except they’re not the worlds most amazing city which isn’t like some glorious tax haven. Whatever Yzerman doing is better than the rest by a measurable amount.

I’m driving the Cheveldayoff hype bus but maybe have to rename it every other weekend. Cheveldayoff gets the “win against insurmountable adversity award”, Yzerman gets the “does Sakic tier need a new name and why is it Yzerman” award. Sakic is now in the Yzerman tier of gms. My boy doug Armstrong has entered the “I got too big for my britches and now I produce garbage” award.
