Bouchard and Lafreniere because both teams would have trouble matching. Players like Swayman and Frederic cannot be offer sheeted because they are going to arbitration

None. The cost needed for all of them for their current teams not to match doesn't line up with the cost that would be worth it for another team to offer.

Didn't even think about the players going into arbitration. Nevertheless, I'd like to see Laf get offer-sheeted because he'll definitely thrive elsewhere

I doubt the Sens would match Sokolov if someone offered him 1x1.

You could but then you'd be paying Laf 5-6 mil AAV, which just doesn't make any sense. Offer sheets don't happen, they aren't designed to happen. You have to massively overpay a player to make them happen, it makes no sense for the teams. They are bull****.

Flyers can match literally any offer sheet from Frost up to multiple 1sts as compensation which would be an overpay anyway then the flyers would love it

Bouchard is like the Oilers entire defence rn so that would be funny. I think it would be fun with Laf bc nobody really knows what he’s worth rn

But with an offer sheet the other teams needs are irrelevant because they only have to offer the player more than his current team can.

Yeah I meant they’d have just a black hole on the right side which would be very bad for the d group as a whole

What his current team *could. Basically you need to make the compensation for the team enough for them not to make other moves to keep the player. You need to both overpay the player in AAV and the current team in assets. Again, why offer sheets never happen.

well they happens... so there goes your argument. if you have the cap space its worth it. you overpay for players in ufa anyway, might aswellcdocit for a 21 years old instead with potential to grow instead of a 28 years old.

Why do people keep repeating things that they know are demonstrably untrue as if it's fact? I'm baffled. Help me understand.

Hyperbole. Look it up.

2 offer sheets made and not matched in the last 25 years, neither of which worked out well for the team. Like I said, they don't happen.

Obviously I'm not talking literally. They barely ever happen, to the point they aren't worth arguing over every summer like fans do. 2 in the last 25 years have gone through. That's also an awful comparison. You get players for free in free agency, you are paying in premium assets in offer sheets to overpay the player. Losing in 2 ways. Try to find examples of offer sheets which have gone well, it's an even smaller section of an already tiny list.

You'd have to go a lot higher than "only a late first" to get Edmonton to walk away. Of course, there actually isn't an "only a first" category, up to $4.290M it's a second, after that it costs 1st + 3rd. But I digress...

Edmonton's Ryan McLeod has filed for arbitration (so he shouldn't be on this list at all) which means Edmonton will get another buyout window after McLeod signs (whether it goes to arbitration or is settled prior). They can buyout any contract that has an AAV over $4M, which basically leaves only Campbell's $5M deal at risk. That saves them $3.5M next year, and combined with the ~$4M they already have earmarked for Bouchard means you're going to have to offer above $7.5M (1st + 2nd + 3rd) before affordability becomes questionable and probably above $8.5M (1st + 1st + 2nd + 3rd) before they walk away.

There are only 10 teams that meet those requirements and only 2 of those have the cap space: Anaheim and Chicago.

The likelihood of Bouchard signing in either place is low, even if they tendered him a big offer.

See comment #20 above. The likelihood of any team successfully offer sheeting Evan Bouchard is quite low. There are only two that can get the offer up into the territory where Edmonton walks away and both are really bad teams.

most of the things that are discussed here dont happens. the beauty of the Offersheet is also that you get the players during a much longer period of time. i know their is some cons to it. i wish they wpuld happen more. Makes it all more interesting.

Yes this is right however, you do a ton of damage to edms salary cap, buying out Campbell Means you have to carry unessesary salary for 8 years and have to replace him. So take that 7.5 and take a mill to 800k off that total 6.7, and you only have a 22 man roster with Bouchard and McLeod signed so take another 800k from that total to become 5.9

So now you're going into a "cup run" with skinner and an unknown in net, no space for the deadline, no room for minor injuries and the money you get next year when the cap goes up is gone because connor brown plays 10 games

They don't need a 23 man roster. They'll probably start with a 21 man as it is. They did last year.
