Your rant is rubbish, there is no negative long term effect here. Utah want a love at first sight team. They have a surplus of prospects. This deal may never happen but they will surround those prospects with proven pros and protection…Stamkos…not surprised if they go for Sid.</div></div>
The deal will never happen for many reasons. One of the most likely is that Utah has no interest is torpedoing their long term competitiveness by making brain dead short sighted deals.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>you don't know what that contract says, and there have been other coaches who got both.
Making up as you go is just too funny. Like every report on him is the same... don't want to pay him while not here.
If it was soooo easy that it just went away if he coached somewhere else, than they wouldn't give a rats ass. But they do, so there goes that theory.
It amazes me that you think the front office is looking at this right now and wouldn't move on. They know, the players know, the fan base knows....it's time to move on.
But them having to pay him is the only thing saving him right now. Otherwise, they would let him talk to other teams and get him out the door.</div></div>
You're wrong (again). NHL coaching contracts are designed to designate the role the coach has. So if he were fired he would still be with the team just in a different role. Unless he takes a different org. position in which case the contract is terminated.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GM_SZK</b></div><div>Yes building identity and having Ovi break the record in a Yeti jersey, very short sighted…</div></div>
It's painfully short-sighted. They're going to do fine their first year or two. It's going to be their sustainment that is potentially in jeopardy. And trading for a bunch of past the prime players is very likely to send them into a massive rebuild only a few years into existence.

Utah might enjoy the hype for a few years. But several years from now it would be major regret at such short sightedness.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>oh really because the money is Guaranteed.
and local media has all suggested they don't want to keep paying him when he's not here and that the contract is one of the issue for him not being gone at this point.
If that money isn't owed to him after he leaves..... he's gone already.
I think it's you that doesn't really get that.</div></div>
You're wrong again. The contract is guaranteed if he doesn't breach the terms of the contract. Coaching another NHL team is a breach of terms that will void the contract. This is boiler plate for any NHL coaching contract.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>that's one way over simplification of the situation.
There are reports all around about Sully getting shipped out.
Dubas holds his rights. They need Sully to waive the contract out as they don't want to pay 5.5 mil for the next 3 years for a guy coaching another team.
If they could simply trade him and that contract he'd be gone.
I think it's pretty clear what is going on in PIT right now. The whole coaching staff is out the door.
They already cleared out WBS. They are going to not extend the assistant coaches. Guess who is next?
This in the media noise is just how they work out canceling that 3 year deal.
If he doesn't waive they threaten to keep him for the next 3 years. Which doesn't work for anyone because they are sure to make his life hell. They might even demote him back down to WBS if they can.
It's clear there are issues here. It's not that Dubas doesn't sound interested in letting him go. It's that he doesn't sound interested in paying him for the next 3 years.
When Sully agrees to waive that contract they will move him out. The question is will Sully agree to do that. The answer to that is probably more dependent on the future contract he will get. Some are saying up to 7mil per on a deal. That would be interesting as he might be willing to waive the contract for that. Unless he thinks the penguins will let him go anyway and then he'll collect 5.5 on top of that 7 mil.
It's just a matter of showing him that isn't going to happen and he has to waive.</div></div>
Sullivan can't be paid his extension contract AND another coaching contract. Accepting another contract voids the extension. So there is no restriction on Dubas terminating him and still paying Sullivan to coach another team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star said that Sullivan is interested in joining the Devils,......... it goes on from there.</div></div>
Sullivan might be interested in leaving. FSG and Dubas don't sound interested in letting him go and Sullivan has an extension starting so if PIT doesn't want him to leave he won't be. I think the team badly needs a different coaching staff and find it unacceptable for them to keep Reirden as the PP coach but not even confident that will change.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>when has the Athletic ever been a reliable news source. When have teams came out and bluntly said what they are going to do.
We'll know by draft. I don't really think the fan base is going to be happy with another year of Mike, and everyone knows that.
I think it's a matter of working a way out of the contract.</div></div>
More than 50% of the time. Seravelli also validated the rumor as well stating PIT is having internal discussions on assistants as both are on expiring contracts. But nothing about Sullivan currently being available.

Pavelski and Stamkos aren't signing those deals. Not for a non-playoff team like PIT.

Bridging Seider
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rednwhite</b></div><div>Quinn Hughes signed a 7.8x6 a few years back and had better offensive numbers than Seider. Sure Seider's defensive game is more refined but putting up points gets you paid in the league. Two years from July 1 Hughes will be able to sign an extension. He will be looking at 12m+ on an 8 year deals on his next deal, probably wouldn't be able to get that kind of money and term if he had to wait another two years and hit UFA in his 30s. From a player perspective the point is cashing in on 2 huge deals and taking the bigger deal later in your contract when the cap has went up and your a better player instead of early in your career and having to settle for a 5-6 year term later on.</div></div>
Hughes is a LD which gets paid less than RD to begin with and only played 119 games. Seider is at 246 with harder deployment. Hughes also signed at 9.63% cap and that figure would put Seider at $8.44m/yr. You're not close.

Looking it up, Seider is one year from arbitration. He's stupid to sign this contract. Take something shorter and then cash in because at the rate he is going, he's worth a lot more.

I wouldn't say he's immune to criticism. Word is he's out.

Honestly though, I think the best team for him to go to is TOR.
I think it works for both the team and Sully.
Sully can stand around and let Matthews drag him forward making him look like a good coach.
And Sully can make them "play through it" instead of TOR being obsessed with being "tough"</div></div>
Reports from Rossi at the Athletic are that Dubas DENIED permission to any team from speaking to Sullivan so the very opposite of what you're claiming.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>no VGK does not.
Whitecloud is their 3RD going forward. They made that bet on the contract they signed. They are stacked on the RD side. so there is no room there.
Korczak is no better than a 3RD.
On the LD side, Martinez is out the door. McNabb is 34 and one step out the door. Hutton is a 7th guy. Which means they will need a 3LD.
So the trade works for them. Swap one cheap 3rd pairing defenseman for another to more fit your depth needs.</div></div>
Vegas will reject because they can get a better offer than POJ.

Doubtful. Tampa was a cap era dynasty, but like all cap era dynasties, they are fading. Playoffs is achievable, but the depth that made them great is likely not returning without a rebuild.
