So a team should trade an asset for a depreciated product and take on the risk of rebounding? We don't live in a world of Forsberg or nothing. The 3rd round pick for a guy playing so poorly is a bad way to start it.

I get that they haven't looked good together, I feel much of that is neither playing well instead of it being a "together" thing, but I'd be more apt to swap Bahl and Siegs than break up Miller and Hughes.

Zadorov just isn't good enough for a prospect that has looked really good and a 2nd rounder...Zadorov being 4th in TOI on a very bad team, just 30 seconds more per game than Tanev.

Drai is an AMAZING player...but it's also a guarantee for just two years. The Devils have a core to win now, if anything they need the D to get experience and find a goaltending playing well enough to keep them in games. The Devils don't need Drai right now nor should pay up something like this.

Issue with this trade is Holtz is still not a sure thing. Biggest "key pieces" of the trade is a POTENTIAL top 6 player is Holtz and a late first round pick, which is essentially a second round pick. And then you have Vanecek, who is a clear downgrade from Saros. Saros is elite, so it doesn't make sense to trade him for a worse goalie, unless bigger pieces are coming back.

No reason from Pred POV to not ask for Mercer in a Saros trade. To me, that would be a good starting point.</div></div>

Saros is great, but the Devils should have long term hopes. Getting a goalie for just two years, as great as Saros is, isn't worth Mercer to the Devils. The Devils don't need a goalie to steal games, they just need a goalie that won't lose them games.
