I can just picture it now: Treliving sits down at the table across from Ilya and his agent and after they're settled in, says, "You know, just idly musing here, but you know what would help us? If Ilya filed for arbitration, and then after, say, oh, I don't know, a week or so to make it look good, settled with us for the figure YOU guys want."

It's within the rules so doable. Players file for arbritation the majority of the time as it is.

Interesting, I wasn't aware. Of course all of this talk about how the Bert signing "doesn't affect Nylander's next contract" are nullified if they are dealing with 4.5m in buyout penalties as a consequence of that and this signing combined.

As much Treliving swinged into empty on the first day, i admit he got me yesterday.

I had Domi 1 x 3M ( waiting for next years cap rise for short-term 5y signing next ) and Bertuzzi with 6 x 5,5M.

So Treliving is going all-in offensivelly.....now he just has to figure who will be helping blue-liners, so 70 games wont finish in a ballpark of 15 goals combined ( and thats not ment 11 : 4 for TML in 90% of cases )

Literaly only Brodie and Liljegren + Giordano at 40 will be playing D seems like

I also wonder if pre-talks with Samsonov about arbitration were also made + Murray to be kidnapped by local TML gang.

The contract is fine, but I do wonder about how they are going to get under the cap. Everyone knows now they have to move Murray and that's going to cost them more.

Good signing. It’s looking to be a really good off-season if they can get under the cap with minimal damage.

Sure who doesn’t like the signing but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Significantly over the Cap and nearly every larger contract has a No Trade clause. What if Muzzin comes back? Is someone going to strategically time an injury until the playoffs like some other teams do? Don’t see a way out, something has got to give.

Could this be a signal that one of the bigger contract UFAs has indicated they aren’t going to re-sign or has someone requested a trade?

That Bertuzzi-Domi-Reaves line is gonna be vicious.

I'm ok with this signing, but it makes the Klingberg signing look even worse than it did yesterday. Remember last year when Columbus signed Erik Gubranson for $4M AAV, then they went out and got Gaudreau? They had to dump Bjorkstrand to get under the cap after signing Gaudreau. If they hadn’t signed Gudbranson, they’d have been able to keep Bjorkstrand. Klingberg is Toronto’s Gudbranson. Somebody’s going to have to go, and it’s probably going to be somebody they needed more than Klingberg. I wonder if they would have signed him if they knew they were going to get Bertuzzi and Domi.
