Montreal Canadiens signed Luke Tuch (2 Years / $925,000 AAV)
How great of a fit would he be in Buffalo/Rochester love to see an AHL trade here to get him back home and maybe play with his brother someday

(BUF/FLA) - Okposo for Själin, 2024 7th (FLA)
It amazes me how glib and illogical people are. Those saying this is a bad trade. For those who haven’t done the math KO is a 35 year old player with diminishing abilities and a UFA next year. The Sabres are NOT going to make the playoffs.
So here’s the logic. Ahhh, let’s hold onto him, GET NOTHING and try and resign him next year (even if they wanted to) or
Let’s get at least something for a him and give KO a chance to win a Cup. If Buffalo really wants him back they can just sign him back, plus now they have assets. This is a win for Buffalo, Florida and KO.

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
Bunting, a 2nd (possibly a 1st) seems about the going rate for a 29 year old player in an expiring contract.

(COL/BUF) - Byram for Mittelstadt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>I played NCAA level.
Being on your off hand is a huge deal. You can just stop right there.
Not only is the curve of your stick on the inside which messes up your passing but it offers no advantage.
Playing your off side is not better for 1 timers, your natural hold on your natural stick is facing the wall.
You have to turn to open the blade up which puts you out of position as a defenseman., Instead of your back being toward your own net it's now toward the wall.
This is hockey 101 and why very few players play their off side and those who do are not better at it than they are on their natural side.</div></div>
I don’t want to get into a thing, maybe some players struggle on the opposite side and that’s fine no judgement but other players do and actually prefer it.
If you seen the TV interview with Don G last night he almost said verbatim what I was explaining with LH/RH D. Not saying Granato is the world’s greatest hockey expert but he has spent a lifetime playing and learning hockey and is a Professional. I think he knows what he’s talking about.

Like Mitts and will miss him. It will be interesting to see how he does on a better team. As far as Byram, haven’t seen him play but since he’s a 4th overall I’d guess he’s an upgrade for Sabres D. Concerning about his injury history however.
Looks good for Av’s at the moment but I think this deal will age well for the Sabres especially if Mitts isn’t resigned. Probably will he’s class.
For those on about the LH / RH D stuff, it’s not that big of a deal and if you can’t play both side you probably shouldn’t be playing in the NHL. Im rubbish but as a LH Defender myself I actually prefer to play in the Right. It’s better for one timers and poke checks. It’s a little harder on breakouts when you need to thread the needle on the backhand (only if there is o time and room) to your forwards. A pro should be able to manage.

Serious question, why would a team trade for nothing? I don’t really understand the logic, is it an “I owe you one” thing? A payroll dump?

Buffalo Sabres signed Owen Power (7 Years / $8,350,000 AAV)
Sabres take a bit of a gamble but I’m confident GMKA knows what they have and will develop into. If it pays off it might be a steal in the long run. What I also like about this deal is that Sabres are paying heavy up front (when there is ample Cap space) and at the end of the contract will seem like a deal. I like it for Owen as he’s UFA at only 27 (prime) and can cash in for big.

As a Sabres fan, I can attest to Craig Anderson a 40 year old goalie still being productive but we also weren’t paying 8.5M either. Worth it right now but wonder how this will age, hopefully well.

It’s the going rate and I’d even say the Sabres are paying for what he still might develop into slightly. This isn’t a team friendly in fact maybe 500K to 1Mil rich. He is and will likely be the long term Leader on the team. This deal will feel better nearing the end of the contract. Be interested to see the status of any No movement clauses when those are available.

Mid-Season I’d say Vancouver wins the trade however if Vancouver just waits they get him or some other player of equal value off waivers this time of year. Could have saved the 5th so I have Leafs winning tbis Trade

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Auston Matthews (4 Years / $13,250,000 AAV)
Guess this is the end of the line for Nylander. Hopefully the Leafs can get good value for him in a trade. They have to go with picks and prospects because they need to dump money. IMO just too much money timed up in one player. With this commitment to Matthew’s and what they are going to have to do the be cap compliant I can’t see the team better this year over last. Hopefully, I’m wrong but they are really up against it. Gonna be interesting to see how GM handles it.

(ANA/BUF) - 2025 4th (MIN) for Lyubushkin
Booch was on the last year of his deal and on the outside looking in . We was an expendable asset and better to get something for him than nothing later. He’s a solid NHL defenseman in tbe 3rd pair range with some Gritt and if reports are true a good teammate. Ducks fan will like him, sad to see him go but Buffalo feels they can upgrade.Fair trade for both teams

This trade is good for both Montreal and Pittsburg. San Jose, meh they got what the market allowed. More importantly it suck’s for the Buffalo Sabres as MTL/PIT look better. Can all the teams in our conference just settle down in the offseason, we’re trying to make the playoffs after 12 years. LOL 😂

Sabres were desperate to get him late 1st or early 2nd and trying trading up specifically for him. Fell to us anyway, our scouts have really improved in the GMKA era so I’m excited for what they see in this Kid 👍 Built and on NHL frame and production in the SHL at his age look really good!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ColonelX</b></div><div>Trade coming I assume? They're 8m over the cap with only Muzzin on LTIR.</div></div>
Sure who doesn’t like the signing but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Significantly over the Cap and nearly every larger contract has a No Trade clause. What if Muzzin comes back? Is someone going to strategically time an injury until the playoffs like some other teams do? Don’t see a way out, something has got to give.
Could this be a signal that one of the bigger contract UFAs has indicated they aren’t going to re-sign or has someone requested a trade?

Gotta think with Tokarski/Cooley now the Rochester Goalies. There isn’t a plan for UPL/Comrie or Levi coming down.
Sabres will probably stay status quo with the Goaltending situation unless there is a trade value in either UPL or Comrie. Gotta think Levi is the #1 or at least untouchable at this point.

I doubt it. I don’t think any of our RHD are first pairing Defenders. SAMUELSSON is definitely not a bottom pair Defender he has to player higher up the food chain.
I don’t really understand this Johnson signing? 3M for depth D man. Maybe a mentor role but I gotta be missing something here.
