I feel like it would just be the same situation with Miller: a good player on a very low contract for his play that’s going to price his way out of Columbus. It’s just gonna end up as “Columbus gives away high-quality assets for nothing” in 2 years

Horvat's next contract is going to be a bit lower now since Miller is easily the better player by a fair margin. Would be much more affordable to sign. I just hope its with the Canucks

Are you trying to argue that Rathbone has high IQ in the D zone and neutral zone? What makes lundkvist special is he makes the right play in all 3 zones most of the time, which is why his floor is very good 2nd pair D. Rathbone is strictly an offensive defenseman

Kadri. He is already 3 years older than Miller. Both signed for same term, and Miller is better right now

So many teams are after good RDs but not that many available . Maybe Severson or Mayfield or maybe Peeke . But none of those guys really move the needle except maybe Severson .

The only way it somewhat makes sense is if they waive myers + Poolman and trade for actual top 4 RD. This current D group isn’t getting them past the 1st rd

The only move I can think of is :
Poolman + Hoglander + pick for someone

I can't see us waiving Myers. He averages like 25 minutes a night for us.

At first when I saw 8mil for 7 years to Miller I was like way too much but he’s actually been pretty much a consistent point-per-game player in Vancouver, he won’t put up 99 points again but he’ll most likely be a 70-80 point guy there for a while

The last 2-3 years of the deal being an anchor is inevitable though

Reports say Miller's contract is HEAVILY front loaded which means it is likely at least buyout friendly

Doesn't that mean the exact opposite?

For instance, Jamie Benn's contract was extremely frontloaded, which made it buyout proof.

Meanwhile Philippe Myers' contract was backloaded, which meant that buying him out now would've net positive cap.

His buyout is permanently 2.6m aav dead cap (whether it’s 2023 or 2027) - he’s already in calculator to check it out.
