Same way they’ve been doing it. Cheap out on depth, and frankly build a flawed roster that isn’t built for postseason success.

Why do people think Zub would be available? He's a top pair quality defensive RHD and he makes 2.5mil. A simple look at how good he has been with Chabot and a look at Ottawa's NHL RD depth behind him should tell you everything you need to know about how important he is to the Sens blueline. It also makes absolutely no sense for Ottawa to touch Mrazek. They have Murray under contract, and Gustavsson has been nearly perfect to start his young NHL career. He's about to take over as a full time NHL backup, and he'll absolutely be a regular next year.

Ottawa doesn’t have room for Mrazek. As for Zub, he’s not likely to go anywhere, anytime soon.

Toronto has to do alot to get under tha cap next year but your trades are highly Toronto eccentric. All teams decline.

Remember everyone knows Leafs have cap pro lem and will not do Du as any favors.

I’m scared of what his next contract is going to look like. Wish we signed him long term. Him and Chabot have some insane stats and analytics. Definitely a top 10 NHL pairing

I think the GM has done a good job finding serviceable depth for limited money. But the core players aren’t build for playoff success which is the big problem.

That’s fair. I would swap Bunting with Spezza cuz Bunting brings more grit & spezza needs to be in an offensive role.

I would’ve given Robertson + Steaves + 1st if Zub was under more term.

I think the first 2 trades are fair, only the last one I wasn’t sure what Zub is worth.

The starting bid for Zub is a 1st round pick and there will be plenty of teams willing to pay more.

Ottawa has no need for Mrazek because we have Murray, Gustvasson and Sogaard.

With that said, we are not trading Zub to a division rival unless it's a massive overpayment.

Sorry.

You're not really seeing where it falls apart for Ottawa. He's a 1st pair RD and they have no way to replace him. None of their RD prospects are ready for that kind of role, and there are no good Dmen in free agency. They'd end up sending most of the return for Zub out in a trade for his replacement, and they probably aren't getting a better player because teams don't really trade top pair RD. The Sens need to be adding a top 4 RD, not removing one.

True defensive defenseman are almost non existent today. Hjalmarsson was almost the only one. There are plenty of "tough" dmen who get the label but they're more physical than defensive.

If he develops his offensive game enough to be paid like a two way guy than Pelech and Brodie would be a comparable?

Haha that's funny. You think you will be able to keep your core together. Yes, about $47.5 mil on 5 players, truly a winning strategy. Surely, players won't want raises. They will just stay at league minimum for all the time they spend in Toronto, which won't be long to begin with. In 2 years time, how much of a raise will Matthews and Nylander get? And in 3 years, what about Tavares and Marner? Tavares almost certainly walks when he is due. Also, that Reilly contract will not age well.

Sens absolutely need Zub and would actually need ANOTHER Zub... They can't afford to trade a good RD, that would be a rebuilding move, which is something they have already done. From that 2017 ECF run (you must remember the double OT vs the Pens), not a single player from that run is still here

I would have gone something like 6 years x 4.5 on Zub after last season, but Dorion rushed to sign him 2 years x 2.5... Now I think they'll have to overpay. I knew he could be a good in the NHL based on his KHL/International career but didn't expect him to be that good. Chabot + Zub is dope to watch

I understand what you're saying but I think Ottawa is still maybe 2 seasons away from being a contender. By that time, guys like Dumba, Weegar and Severson who are similar level will be available as free agents. It would be really good asset management to get a kings ransom to a win-now team while signing someone as good if not better for free.

I’m not too concerned about the long term extensions cuz if Tavares, Marner & Matthews keep playing at this level, they’re gonna struggle to get a raise.

I’m sure the GM will pull the right strings to bring depth to this team, but the top players never perform so that’s the biggest problem.

Lol no. Makes no sense. Zub will be re-signed long term and then they will look to make a trade to upgrade either a top 6RW or top 4D. We aren’t trading a core player

Otaawa's market? Please refer to the list of UFAs signed by Ottawa

It is way too risky and there's also chemistry/team cohesion. Artem Zub fits really well

Alright fair enough. Toronto just needs an upgrade on Holl. It's just frustrating that the management is so attached to him that they kept him for 2 seasons and passed on so many better options and are stuck with him now that he's a healthy scratch. There isn't much that I dislike about this front office but this is a blunder. Guess we'll go after Severson or Lyabushkin instead.
