Goaltending has been great so far, I wouldn't say unproven Lankinen is any major upgrade. Janmark would be worth a 2nd maybe? Lets say Andersen value = Janmark, for fun.

leafs fans won't like this one, i'll just comment on the idea of trading lankinen and say we should not even consider it. He's literally one of the exact pieces this team was missing. Who knows what we have in Commesso and he's likly 2-3 years away from even being an NHL backup. I would rather keep lanky and if Comesso ends up being a stud then we can trade one of the two down the line. Having 2 good goalies is a good problem to have, I don't want to go back to having 0 again

Pens have no need for another LHD. We will probably look to move one out, so I do not see the need to add Zadorov.

I hope so. I gotta say, I don't have a very good feeling about it though from a Leafs perspective. They were so sloppy in their last game against Vancouver and still squeaked away with the two points, hopefully they aren't content with that. Montreal's also had 3 days to practice/prepare for tonight's game... Idk, I really want to be wrong, but I'm not feeling great about it.

These aren't the games that matter. I really couldn't care less if Montreal won the rest of the games against the Leafs this season and dominated them every game. We'll see who's really better in playoffs.

Early 2000's the Sens dominated the Leafs and frequently won all the meetings in the regular season, if not close to all (they played each other 8 times then). Leafs came out and swept them in the playoffs. Point is, regular season doesn't matter.

Leafs will likely have to go through Montreal in the playoffs, that's the real matchup I'm looking forward to.

Montreal just barely beat ottawa after losing to ottawa and they played like crap both times.

Yeah, obviously a regular season game doesn't really matter as long as you make the playoffs, but I'd still prefer to watch a good game.

Nylander >>> Lankinen and Quennville

Andersen posting a .904 save percentage and .909 last season including being pulled out of games 5 times isn't exactly the kind of goalie that is going to win a team a cup. Notice for comparison sake Stanley Cup winning teams over the last 5 years comparably. Every single goalie had a significantly better save percentage then Andersen as a Cup winning goalie; Vasey last year .936, Binnington the year prior .917, Holtby .922, Murray .917, MAF .927, and Crawford .924.

Andersen may not be the number one problem for the Leafs, but he isn't a top flight goalie the Leafs can rely on to shut down the opponent in a conference championship series or Cup series and be one of the noticeable stars that brings the team a cup. Notice again, every single goalie over the last 5 years has stood on their heads to make that happen; Andersen is just not that type of goalie.

Andersen would be nothing more then a cap dump to the Hawks as they don't need a 1 year rental during a rebuild so take him out of the equation and dump someone else. Janmark absolutely is worth a 2nd rounder the way he's playing under a system not known as The Stars.

I agree which is why I posted. Unbias opinion alike, but I'm not sure I would trade Lankinen and Janmark in effort to get Nylander. If Lankanin continues at this pace, given his age and RFA status he would simply be more valuable then Nylander. Goalies posting .936 as rookies and at such a young age don't grow on trees. I like Nylander but if Lankinen keeps this up I wouldn't move him and Janmark for Nylander.

That's a well put together thought/explanation, but it still doesn't answer the question of if Freddie's out (at 50% retained for unknown reasons) and the top 6 is now quite depleted with Nylander traded for appears to be nothing, who's holding down the fort in net? Jack Campbell? Who's replacing Nylander's spot with Tavares?

Don't need Freddie coming back, frankly Hawks aren't in a position to acquire a 1 year rental anyway but was more a move for cap reasons. Lankinen is a 25 year old goalie getting his first shot in the NHL playing lights out, obviously he would become the starter. Keep playing Lankinen until he proves his numbers drop but right now he's playing better then Freddie so perhaps a 1A/1B scenario and send Campbell back.

That said, Lankinen's play could be a 9 game fluke against teams like Carolina and Dallas, or he could be the real deal. Obviously this post was more for discussion purposes but as I've been saying for a couple years, Andersen is not the Cup winning goalie the Leafs need and goalie is simply more important in the playoffs then a winger. Janmark would be a great acquisition for the Leafs as he plays a very good two way North South physical game and is scoring well this year now that he's opened up to play a top 6 role. Not that he would replace Nylander but he certainly would be a good winger for the kind of game the Leafs play.

Not to mention this also opens a good amount of cap space for the Leafs to have flexibility. Point is, despite the push back from Toronto fans, if Lankinen is the real deal then this is a very good trade for the Leafs and bad one for the Hawks....that's the gamble that I thought could stimulate good discussion versus some of the knee jerk reactions (not you or Leafs101 but some of your fellow fans...usual suspects).

Lol, I'm guilty of the knee jerk every once and while along with a troll job here and there, but at this moment I have no complaints on how the Leafs are playing, becoming consistent, winning tight games, way less defensive WTFs

I agree, the Leafs look good but watching Andersen it's an area I see as an improvement would be nice. Defensively though they are putting less pressure on him this season.
