  1. Jiricek, David
Détails additionnels:
He expressed some concerns with his NHL playing time, and while I don’t believe the Jackets would be interested in moving at this time I would really try to get him if the opportunity presented itself.

I could try a number of different approaches, prospect based, roster player based, outside of Bedard I would consider a lot.

The only thing that CHI has that can get them Jiricek is Bedard, and thats not going to happen. Laine wont be traded at his lowest value unless he requests a trade. Since that hasnt happened there is no reason for the Jackets to trade him unless someone wants to overpay.

Im not saying they are equal value, just that the other pieces you have wont get him. To trade him we would need either a young 1RD or a young top line player. The only position that is more valuable than 1RD is 1C.

The point isn’t “Jiricek isn’t as good as Bedard,” the point is outside of Bedard (or CHI’s 1st in the next draft or two), CHI doesn’t have anything CBJ want.

Just not good trade partners.

Maybe, it would depend on how our FO saw the top defensemen in this draft compared to Jiricek and if they wanted to wait the additional time for the new draft pick to be ready.

I'm not sure why you would be THIS interested in Jiricek. I would much rather keep Rinzel and the picks.

This is a bad trade for the jackets. not enough difference in the 2nd OA and 4OA this year. Certainly not enough difference for jiricek to be involved.

It’s really just gauging RD options, I’m a big Demidov guy at number 2, and want to see what a future RD pairing would cost the hawks at this point in their rebuild.

Easy. jiricek and silayev. That’s a dominant top pair for the next decade. Not to mention the jackets have werenski and mateychuk too. Could be the best top 4 in the league if they pan out

I have no dog in this fight…just offering my view of a fair deal. I’d prefer Rinzel to Mateychuk.

Why? Because he’s big? I can’t find a single prospect evaluator who agrees with you on that. On one side you have an elite skating former 12OA, WHL defensive player of the year and captain currently leading his team (likely) to its first ever WHL championship who’s actually two full weeks younger vs an average skating, rangy NCAA D who’s won no awards and projects to be a middle pairing player if he’s lucky. In fact, I actually prefer Mateychuk to Jiricek if I’m choosing between two Jackets prospects. So I’m curious what makes you draw that conclusion.

Just my personal preference. Rinzel is indeed bigger, but I like mobility and calmness. He is great with the puck in own zone, especially under pressure. He was Gophers top dman by end of this last season (Minnesota has been dman factory in recent years). He also played very well at WJC. He should get more attention from prospect evaluators going forward (I feel like many of them just base their lists off draft position).

I don’t want to take anything away from Mateychuk. He is good too. (Ty Smith won WHL dman of year twice in a row)

Not because he is big.

Because I know him a lot better. I follow NCAA, especially big ten and watched him a ton this year.

I agree with all of this. @squashmaple said earlier that Rinzel is just an average skater, but that is wrong. Rinzel is not just a great skater for his size, but a great skater in general, and he likely only gets better.

A little off subject but for comparison, Rinzel is barely a year older than Levshunov and was also a rookie in the NCAA this past season. So, they were at a very similar point in their development. I can honestly say, as an observer without bias, that I liked Rinzel way more than I liked Levshunov. He's got the poise, compete, skating, size, range, physicality, effectiveness in all zones, tools, everything, to be an effective NHL dman. Also, I had always heard that the NCAA is a superior league to the entire CHL, yet I had no way of making that determination for myself. But, recently, after a few years of watching junior and college religiously, I finally see why people say that and I definitely believe it is true.

He and Mateychuk are completely different players. But, yeah, I also believe people are going to start to take notice of Rinzel very soon if they haven't already. Minnesota has a knack for churning out great dmen. So, if Rinzel takes another big step, he could be in the upper echelon of defensive prospect rankings very soon, if rankings are something that is important to you. Personally, public scout rankings are fun to look at and can be a useful starting point for doing your own scouting, but I like to make my own determinations.
