Kings pass. If we want an older goaltender we will resign Talbot who would also be cheaper and on shorter term and keep our 1st.

Have you looked at the buyout scheme for Jack Campbell? Here it is: $1.1 million, $2.3 million, $2.6 million, and then three seasons at $1.5 million.

I think that Edmonton would prefer that to giving up another first-round draft pick.

I actually find the delusion in people who think Markstrom has value at age 34, has a full NMC to dictate where he can go, and has been a meh ~.900 SV% goaltender for the last few seasons is worth a $6M cap hit and big assets. The Kings have been able to get better goaltending from guys worth $1M or less this season statistically.

I'm trying to understand how you think a 28 year old minor leauger is worth a 5th round pick to a rebuilding team. In what world does that make sense?

The Mangiapane trade to Utah probably has a shot at happening. The rest of these are all declined by the team not named Calgary.

Leafs already have a small left winger who's having trouble getting NHL minutes in Robertson despite having had more success than Pellettier and being younger while they are trading away from a position of need in a younger center who has looked like he could be an NHL player in the near future. This trade just doesn't make any sense for the Leafs.

What's delusional is you thinking Talbot was even remotely as good as Markstrom this season, while also bringing up statistics. There will be a reason Markstrom gets Vezina votes and Talbot won't.

Taking on that contract costs much more than just a late 1st.

I'd assume we'd attached another pick or another prospect, Holloway wouldn't be the one included.
Otherwise we just buy him out, it's not a lot of money.

At 50% that is probably fair even if other fanbases don't want to admit it. Maybe LA will get lucky though and Boston will offer Ullmark for Dubois again this summer but this time Ullmark won't block the trade

After the season Dubois' had? They seemed willing to at the deadline but they could just sign a better center this summer

At1/6th of Markstrom's cap hit, I think Talbot getting an all-star nod and shoring up LAs goaltending after their abysmal goaltending last season is incredibly impressive.

And are you crazy about Vezina votes, last season Igor Shesterkin got 2 votes with a 0.916 SV%, Markstrom had a .892 SV%. Do you think anyone seriously would risk their credentials to give Markstrom a Vezina vote this season?

LMAO your entire argument is SV%? How do you expect a goalie to have a high SV% when they are bombarded with high danger shots every game? There is a reason Markstrom finished the season with almost 29 Goals Saved Above Expected and Talbot finished with 15. Hell even Rittich was better than Talbot when he played

Fans may feel that way every time a player has a down year but GMs don't panic over it.

Maybe my numbers here are wrong, but on Moneypuck I see Markstrom as 9th. Is this all situations?

And although GSVx is typically a great indicator of how well the goaltender has done, can you name a Vezina finalist who has had a below a .910SV%. Like Jusse Saros would be the best comparable with the highest GSAx and 4th in Vezina voting last season, but he also had a .919 SV% and 2.69GAA.

I'll eat crow if Markstrom gets a single Vezina vote, but that's a bold statement in my opinion and an interesting hill to die on.

Lets clarify something. Hellebuyck and Demko are going to be #1 and #2 in Vezina voting. After that it will be something like Oettinger or Shesterkin simply due to to the teams success. But Markstrom has had for the most part an excellent season and will absolutely get Vezina votes. Not a finalist but probably 5th to 7th in voting.

Money Puck and Evolving Hockey use 2 different methods for xG. Evolving Hockey uses Fenwick (includes missed shots) as it's base and Money Puck only uses Shots on Goal. Until about the last month of the season Markstrom was ~4th on MP and 2nd on EH. The TDL rumours along with the complete downgrade of defensive play in front of him tanked his numbers quite a lot

Fair enough, let's wait and see. but my real point was Markstrom is a 34 year old goalie who hasn't waived his NMC (also why would he to one of the highest tax rates in a a tough division) add to this that the Kings have for under $2M done fairly well with budget goaltending.

If LA did pay big pieces for an upgrade at goal to me it looks like Saros (or Ullmark if he changes his mind) are the only ones who makes sense as legitimate goaltending upgrades. But if it costs LA Roy reupping or a solid LD3, is getting an upgrade at goal really make the Kings a contender? Gibson and Markstrom are exceptional goalies, but the realistic asking price for these guys along with there age make them less than stellar trade targets for most teams with goalie issues.

You are right that Marky is 34 but goalies primes also tend to last longer. But he did waive his clause already.

The issue is more that doing "fairly well" isn't good enough to win the cup most of the time. I don't think they end up trading for Markstrom but the value for 50% retention is absolutely there in this deal, especially with it being a relatively late 1st and the draft being subpar later in the 1st
