Don't think the EDM trade makes sense from EDM's POV, we need our cheaper young players to fill in roles.
Would imagine we'd pass and just buy out Campbell.

Questions for Oil Fans
You've accounted for the overages twice, it was updated recently so you dont need to create it anymore just as an FYI.
1. Yes, but for less money; 800K and 850K IMO.
2. Debrusk is my top hope by a mile, 2-way player who can score would be amazing alongside Drai.
3. I'd like to move both, but rather Kulak moved over Ceci. Would hope for a 2-way puck mover to play alongside Nurse who has good skating abilities.
5. I assume you mean for rookies, to me only Broberg and Holloway are, rest are fair game.
6. Keep him, this was his worst season and he still did fine. No way he's waving at this point either.
7. Carrick and Janmark are my #1 and #2, I think Perry/Gagner may retire and I dont think Brown would make our lineup anyways (if he signs league min tho it's w.e).

I don't think EDM is the location for Chych unless he can confidently play on the right side.
Also idk if we would trade Broberg at this point, he's a cost effective player which we need.
You'd probably get more for Chych elsewhere.
Zub on the other hand is of interest...

I'd rather without Vladar too, but I don't know if Calgary would do it just straight, the cap out of Vladar might help their situation... idk
He's also done next season so that give's room for Rodrigue to move up in 2026 and saves us looking for a goalie this offseason.
Cost equals out the same as signing a guy for 1M and buying out Campbell, honestly I think I'd do this.

Batherson is a great player but not what EDM needs especially at the cost of 2 of our good cost controlled forwards.
We need guys who shine at 5 on 5, not another PP player, Batherson isn't a fit here and we won't be giving up 2 guys that are a fit in exchange for him.

There are several clues as to how much Torts trusts Ristolainen.
5v5 TOI, 22-23: #5 among Flyers defensemen
5v5 TOI, 23-24: #6 among Flyers defensemen

He's a 3rd pairing guy, according to Tortorella.
But hey, there's a sucker born every day... I just don't want it to be Edmonton. Trading a legit 2nd pairing guy for an overpriced 3rd pairing guy is a Chiarelli move, and he got fired years ago.</div></div>
Under that same logic Tort also saw him building towards a top dman cause his ice time climbed steadily since he came back from injury until his season ending injury in February.
I also wouldn't say Desh is a legit second pairing guy, he is a great 6th dman but hasn't solidified a 2nd pairing spot in any way.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Yeah could be something like that also, just the general consensus in this site has been that Oilers should get rid of Ceci for 3rd or smth. So thought you're replacing Ceci with him.
And yes Risto has bad reputation, which also affects your opinion about him, but everyone who's actually seen him play under Torts can see the difference.</div></div>
I would rather keep Ceci than Desh, the consensus on this site with Ceci is really mixed but I still see him as a very effective 2nd-3rd pairing RHD and would like EDM's lineup more with him in it rather than Desh.
With Risto I have to somewhat agree with <a href="/users/CD282" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@CD282</a>, paying a first straight across for him is a risk for us even with that retention.
I'm fine with it cause I still like Risto a lot and when I could watch him on Buffalo he was good (albeit 3 years ago), I imagine he improved in area's he needed to but IDK... I only watch Phili when they play EDM and Risto was injured all year.

Faulk is a US born player with gull trade protection for another year, plus it's quite unlikely they would retain on him</div></div>
Talking to a couple of the STL fans on this site they see retention on Faulk as doable, really depends on his view of playing in the north cause of that NTC.
IDK about the Sens and Zub, I havent been able to gather a lot from their fans or anything around their team about the direction they're going.
Given he's 3 years left I wouldn't imagine him being on their no trade list, maybe just a costly guy to get.

Risto (50%) for Desh (rights) + 2025 1st, maybe we also get a 4th-5th back but idk if I'd die on that hill.
Our d-lines are:
Ekholm-Bouch
Nurse-Risto
Broberg-Ceci
We can swap Ceci and Risto as needed depending on their fit with Nurse/Broberg.

With Ceci for one more year they don't have to rush with Bonk. Maybe something in range of -25 1st + Ceci <-> Risto retained would be close?</div></div>
With that retention I may do it with Desh rights (he is a UFA so take it with a grain of salt) for 50% retained, ex. Risto 50% for Desh and 2025 1st.
I think with Risto retained keeping Ceci is better for us cause he has been pretty good in our lineup, plus Risto brings the physicality that we'd lose in Desh (plus Risto is a larger upgrade on Desh than he is on Ceci).

If Philly's willing to retain on him that's probably the only realistic target from your list there. Everyone else is either not available with retention, not available at all, or way out of your price range</div></div>
Yea that's where I have a lack of knowledge on him, it's hard to judge his defensive game when I can't watch him, why the drop in ice time though?
I think there are a few options, Zub, Risto and Faulk seem the most likely to me for their team to move them but you never know.
Even Spurgeon on Minny may be an option if we can find the right price, that team is young (at least the main guys are) and the 14M dead cap rn might incentives them to move some of their aging cast right now for some future picks/role fillers before they age out of their worth.

That ask is a little high but I would potentially be willing to give up a first for him from EDMs perspective.
It's difficult to judge his worth cause he hasn't fit in well in Phili's system (at least statistically), I dont watch Phili so I wouldn't be able to tell why.
I still think he has value, he was pretty good in Buffalo when he was younger and I think matured his game in the right direction.
Would your side be willing to take cap back, namely Kulak/Ceci?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>edeangel84</b></div><div>So is Broberg going to be a full time player there next year? Because I’m not convinced he’s going to be an NHL player, hence why Poulin was offered up. I don’t see either one of them amounting to much.</div></div>
Broberg is likely our 3LHD next season, he was also ready for that spot but with us acquiring Ekholm last year it bumped him out of rotation.
He's also 22, we rushed him initially which was <strong>REALLY</strong> stupid cause it stunted him. After a couple seasons of consistent AHL play he has developed really well and looks way more confident.
Not saying he's coming in and being a #1 on day one but at this point trading him isn't worth it unless a team massively overpays or generously fills in other gaps in our lineup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Sure that would make more sense, as Broberg is ready to step into Kulak's role, and the Oilers don't have anyone to step into Ceci's role. Desharnais hasn't shown top-4 ability.
Still I would like to see a Ceci out/ Montour in move (or similar) this summer. Cap Space doesn't score and sucks at defense - and you still need to win games prior to the deadline as the season is 80% over by then.</div></div>
100% if we can get an upgrade in FA I would take it but as of right now our likelihood of signing someone better than Ceci/Kulak is low.
If one of Montour/Pesce/Roy/Carrier want to come here I would hope management makes the swing for them but 2 of those 4 already don't want to move to Canada (Roy/Pesce) and the other 2 (Montour/Carrier) are happy in the system they're in.
Otherwise the FA available are mid at best, I would maybe give an edge to DeMelo but I'd rather just keep Ceci over paying DeMelo 4-5M.
I would swap out Kulak for Ceci in the trade above though, ultimately I think both will be gone by next playoffs anyways it just depends at what point in the year we trade them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>There's a vast difference between expecting to get better at the deadline and actively making the team worse over the summer. I just don't get that at all.
And I've never suggested that Ceci is a "centerpiece" on this team. But you just don't trade players for the hell of it unless you have a better replacement lined up.</div></div>
Essentially it is moving him or Kulak to free up space so you can take a larger step forward going into the 2025 playoffs at the 2025 TDL.
We saw this year how teams responded to cap going back in trades, it kneecapped us a bit and forced us into a situation where we didn't make defense upgrades this trade deadline, I would really want to avoid that next year if we can.
Maybe Ceci (Kulak) will be seen as an easier addition to some teams due to his contract expiring in 2025 (2026), but we don't know.
I didn't suggest you called him a centerpiece, I said I don't think he is one.
We have players to replace him in our current system, if they aren't as effective it's fine as we can fill that role easier at TDL 2025 due to our additional cap space.
EDM would still make playoffs running the Dmen I have above, our forward core is stronger as well and Skinner will have another year of experience.
At TDL 2025 we will have ~7M (with the movement of the other of Ceci/Kulak that wasnt traded in the offseason) for another top line RHD.
If you're hung up on Ceci being the one in the initial trade I proposed with ARI than I would just swap him and Kulak.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>I just don't see the Oilers going into the season with a worse defense corps than they have now. Ceci is at least a legit top-4 defender, Dezzy isn't.
Trading Ceci out with no replacement top-4 RHD coming in would be a fireable offense. And I'd hate to see the new GM leave so quickly!</div></div>
Teams in our situation normally go into the next season worse than they go into playoffs, one of my priorities with this particular ACGM is to have a lot of cap space so I moved Ceci.
Ceci isn't a centerpiece on this team to me, he is someone I see as moveable to free up space for a better player, if we can find a trade like that before the season I'd take it (within some scope, obvs I'm not paying to dump him).
If that means for 2-3 months starting the year we have a slightly worse D-Core but allows us to get significantly better going into playoffs I'm 100% fine with that.
