Détails additionnels:
The Blues trade the signing rights to Snuggerud for the 5th overall pick.

Apparently, Montreal had a similar offer last year for Cutter Gauthier and turned it down in favor of drafting Reinbacher. Well, now they need a forward and not a defensive prospect. Snuggerud is better than the forwards that will be available at 5 and with MSL as his coach he could explode in Montreal. I think Snuggeruds ceiling will be capped in St. Louis the same way Kyrous ceiling has been capped. The Blues have such a focus on defensive play that high end offensive players can struggle to reach their peak offensive output here.

The Blues would be trading up to draft Anton Silayev. Silayev won't make it past Arizona (they love drafting their giants) and he would be a massive add for the Blues and form a formidable top pair with Parayko in 1 or 2 years. The Blues already have Neighbours and Kyrou as RW1 and RW2 so Snuggerud would be behind them. I know they could just move Neighbours to LW but they seem determined he stays on the right for now.

Either way, the Blues need defense, Montreal needs offense. Win-Win trade in my mind.

Snuggerond is not worth a 5OA pick, he regressed also this year. Mtl wouldn't do that

As great as this logic is, I think MTL holds. While they certainly don't need anymore D, you always draft the best available player. They will likely get another stud and trade one of their prospects they don't feel nearly as high on for offensive help. Great proposal tho!

I think MTL will have better prospects available at 5 so they’d probably pass. Plus I’m still very excited about the prospect of Thomas feeding snuggerud for a decade. I think he’s setting up for a massive season for the gophers after acknowledging he wasn’t good enough last season

Snuggerud isn't worth the 5th overall pick imo, I still take a guy like Demidov or maybe Catton/Iginla over him

Hate it from a Montreal perspective. Not only do I prefer around 2-4 forwards in the draft to Snuggerud, I'd rather just take the D-man and try to trade for a prospect that better fits Montreal's needs than Snuggerud.

You're also severely underestimating how long D usually take to develop if you think any from this draft will be a top pair D in 1 to 2 years.

Me personally? Not a chance.

We can dance around it all day but the truth is, the only reason Snuggerud is even being mentioned in a trade is because there isn't 100% chance he will sign his ELC with STL yet. Any GM knows this and won't give into STL moving him at full value. Why would they? The minute he signs his ELC with STL, all that goes away and then you can begin to discuss whether or not he is worth a top 5 pick in the draft. I still don't think so but you can at least have that discussion.

If I'm Montreal I draft either Lindstrom, Iginla, Catton, Or Parekh. Snuggerud is a good Player but not worth that high of a pick

I understand that normally a dman takes longer to develop I'm just saying Parayko doesn't need a fully developed top pair dman to play with. Him and a 20 year old Silayev would still be great. Fair on Montreal not wanting Snuggerud.

I appreciate everyone's comments. Seems like Montreal fans would not trade the 5th pick for Snuggerud. Also I appreciate the reasoning behind it and not just saying no.

For a few of the players listed, I don't think Montreal should draft Parekh just because they have Hutson who will be great and plays a similar style. I think Hutson will actually be better than Parekh. I would take Snuggerud over Iginla. I think Catton will be a better player than Snuggerud but I think Montreal passes on him due to his size (hopefully not because he'd actually be a nice fit with Montreal). Lastly, I highly doubt Demidov will fall to 5.

Theres probably 7-10 forwards in the draft that are better than suggarud so they wouldnt have any interest.

I probably wouldn't do that. I'm not too high on Harris and Winnipeg will have a late first round pick. But not a bad offer in general that offer could get a good player from another team.

They turned down some great offers for the 5th overall pick last year, and Snuggerud is not better than most of the players that we were offered

Yes i'm serious Snuggerud was drafted in 20s if i'm not mistsken
WPGs pick will be somewhere between 20-30
+ Harris who is for sure a solid bottom pairing dman who can play both sides with ease and has middle pairing potential
You don't have to like the offer but it's closer to the return you would get vs 5th overall

I think you are overrating Snuggerud
He's a good prospect but will not be a superstar and projects as a middle 6 player IF he reaches his potential.
Solid prospect but not the next coming of Pasternak

I dare you to find one prospect pundit or service that rates Snuggerud as having a "middle 6" ceiling.

ONE.

I'm not over-rating anything. My view of him is precisely in line with the consensus. Where he was picked two years ago is entirely irrelevant. Time marches on, dude.

It's ok to have different opinions.
No need call me out for being serious or dare me to find what pundits have to say. I
Once upon a time it was acceptable for 2 people with different takes to have a healthy conversation. No need to get insulted because I'm not as high on him as you are.
And there's nothing wring with being a solid 2nd line player. You should be happy if he develops into that. If he does more than great!
You aren't as high on Harris as I am, that's fine. I moved on without calling you out or crying about pundits.

And when it comes to pundits, in the 30 years i have been watching hockey i can't count how many players have been celebrated by these same pundits as being blue chip can't miss top level next big thing superstars only to fade away. Hundreds if not more.

I watch hockey and form opinions
I may be wrong and that's fine
i don't need someone to tell me what to think

Time will tell with Snuggerud
I hope he becomes all you hope and considering your expectations the Blues should definitely hold on to him

Depending on who wins the lottery, Demidov might still be available at 5. If not, Lindstrom, Catton, Igilna and Eiserman are all better option than Snuggerud

How good pundits are is irrelevant, and nobody told me what to think. You said I was overrating him, but I'm rating him just like everyone who watches all these players does. So maybe the issue isn't everyone overrating him, it's that you're underrating him. He's a very high floor prospect with an elite shot and a well rounded game. A late 1st and a meh Dmen doesn't get a sniff of Snuggerud.
