I agree I'd at least like to see him get a look on the powerplay. His one timer is a serious threat and the Blues desperately need that on their powerplay.
What are your thoughts on the Samuel Johannesson signing? I think he has a lot of potential as a late bloomer. I wonder if the Blues signing him is a sign they will move Faulk.

I think there's better ways to the top 10 and better splurge targets. Or at least ones more suited to needs.</div></div>
I'm a big Rossi fan so I personally would love if the Blues got him. But Dvorsky could be blocked by the move or one of them would have to move to the wing. It's never a bad thing to have too many centers.
If you were to trade Buch what would be your ideal return? Would you target draft picks or younger players like Rossi, Holtz, etc... Or package Buch for a top dman (which would be almost impossible).

I don't mind the Detroit pick. I'm at a toss up between a bunch of players around that spot. Ideally would love Catton but no way does he get to us.</div></div>
I agree I just don't see anything overall that impresses me when it comes to Ritchie. I won't have him ranked in my top 64 unless something big changes.
Catton would be perfect for Detroit but I would be shocked if he fell that far. Then again, it happens every year with small guys and teams never learn, just look at Benson.

Losing out on Catton would suck but at the same time if Dickinson falls to Calgary he's simply too good to pass up and I think they would be happy with that pick. I still wouldn't be surprised if they took Iginla over Dickinson in this scenario but I think that would be a mistake.

Fair, thanks. Of all the younger wingers that are possibly available, I think Columbus should put together a big package for Brady T.

What package would you put together for Buchnevich if he came with an 8x8 extension? He's a little old for what you're looking for but he would still be a great fit. I think a package oriented around Chinakhov and Ceulemans could get things going.

Blues and Montreal fans thoughts
I appreciate everyone's comments. Seems like Montreal fans would not trade the 5th pick for Snuggerud. Also I appreciate the reasoning behind it and not just saying no.
For a few of the players listed, I don't think Montreal should draft Parekh just because they have Hutson who will be great and plays a similar style. I think Hutson will actually be better than Parekh. I would take Snuggerud over Iginla. I think Catton will be a better player than Snuggerud but I think Montreal passes on him due to his size (hopefully not because he'd actually be a nice fit with Montreal). Lastly, I highly doubt Demidov will fall to 5.

You're also severely underestimating how long D usually take to develop if you think any from this draft will be a top pair D in 1 to 2 years.</div></div>
I understand that normally a dman takes longer to develop I'm just saying Parayko doesn't need a fully developed top pair dman to play with. Him and a 20 year old Silayev would still be great. Fair on Montreal not wanting Snuggerud.

Ideal set up for next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beauterham</b></div><div>"In free agency, the blues overpay for the versatile Lafferty. He likely gets moved to a contender at the TDL."
4 Million for Lafferty is really, really bad. Overpaying is an understatement here as he will probably immediately be the worst contract with the Blues. Even if we retain 50% on him it might not be easy to move him.</div></div>
It's just a one year deal so even if he's horrible it doesn't hurt the team. This team still has 13 million in cap so they have plenty of cap to spend.

Ideal set up for next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tsmash</b></div><div>I really don’t feel like this accelerates anything. The only part I would really be interested in is trading up for silayev, but I think nj would want at least both 2nds to trade down. Also I think Hague would be the defenseman the blues would want from vgk</div></div>
It's about accelerating things for the long term, not short term. The Blues shouldn't attempt to compete next year and would be best off getting a top 10 pick. Then, the year after that, they can start competing as they will be able to move out salaries on the Blue line and replace them with young up and coming players. I also really do believe this would accelerate the rebuild because it would put our younger players in a position to succeed. Bolduc would dominate with Thomas for an entire year and become a legit top 6 option. I think Perunovich with Parayko for a year would be great for both. The list goes on for the benefits of just playing the youth. As for Hague, I used to think that too but after reading some Vegas forums they seem to be not so high on him (or at least his ceiling) as opposed to Korczak who they seem very high on. Plus Korczak is right handed which is more valuable to me.
I think the biggest mistake the Blues could make this offseason is believing they have a chance to compete next year. I could see Army going out and signing or trading for a bunch of vets and even possibly trading away our youth/draft picks. That would be a disaster. The goal should be to build a dynasty, not just barely craw into the playoffs every year.

Buch to Columbus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I have no faith that a 60-70 point player elsewhere isn't just a 30-50 point player in Columbus. There's something about the playstyle they want to pursue that has been absolutely destructive to offensive production. With that in mind, the value here is horrible for Columbus as they're potentially giving up two guys who can score at the same rate as Buchnevich would in Columbus.</div></div>
The key though is the two guys could "potentially" score at the same rate as Buch. The odds that both of those 2 ever do that in Columbus is pretty rare. At some point Columbus has to change up the culture and play style. That likely starts with a new coach this offseason who will hopefully help. Either way it will be fascinating to see how they perform next year.
What are your thoughts on the Jiricek situation? Hopefully he gets a full time top 4 role next year but Columbus has a lot of dmen he has to pass and they've seemed reluctant in letting him pass those players even though he is more skilled.

Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lactic_Flaccid</b></div><div>Ducks fan here, what would the cost be for Faulk? Someone else proposed Hayes and Faulk for the EDM 1st and two thirds. Does that get it done? I feel like Ducks need to add a bit, but curious what STL would be looking for in a return (Strome is available for cents on the dollar imo)</div></div>
I think they would love to get a first for Faulk at the end of the day. The Blues will likely look to move one of Faulk, Krug, or Leddy, not necessarily because they're bad players but because the Blues need to get younger and cheaper. The problem with all 3 though is they all have a full NTC meaning they would likely turn down a trade to Anaheim. If I was trading Faulk I'd be looking for a 2nd and B prospect while taking back some sort of salary to make the deal feasible.

Parayko
Again, with the Parayko rumors, the Blues have no reason to move him unless they're getting a true top dman prospect back. Detroit actually could trade for Parayko in my opinion but that conversation starts with Edvinsson. If I'm Detroit I wouldn't do that though so again, almost impossible that Parayko gets moved.

Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Voronkov is also an ideal player the Jackets need, so I can't see us trading him.
Probably even more unlikely, but Columbus needs a middle-6 two-way vet winger to play with the kids IMO. Gaudreau, Marchenko, Johnson, and Chinakhov are all top-6 wingers, at least by style. There's one specific younger top-6 RW with term that could use a change of scenery. He's not playing right now, and there's no way we move him before he comes out of the player assistance program, but would a Laine-Saad swap make sense?
STL would need to add, not sure how much (a 2nd?), and I'm not sure he's a fit, but that's more the move I'd be looking at in a STL-CBJ trade.</div></div>
I would be slightly interested in Laine but at the end of the day I just don't think he's a good fit for the Blues style of play. The Blues want their wingers to be physical and in on the forecheck and that's never been Laine's style. On top of that, we have Snuggerud coming who will be our sniper. Lastly, I don't think we could afford the 4 million increase in cap especially if we try to sign Buch to a long term deal. Maybe if Columbus retained the Blues would be interested but there's no real reason for Columbus to retain on Laine just to make a deal happen.
