<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>One thing that needs to be considered -- and realistically it IS a huge deal as we know in this tight market where even free agent wingers expected to get a decent raise (Smith Toffoli) and free agents in general have gotten a lot less than expected in addition to MTL's cap crunch situation -- is the fact that MTL saves 1.85mil in cap space with this proposal while still getting the Joel Armia they need on the left side, albeit a downgrade, in Sorensen.

By no means is Sorensen a throwaway. He PKs (SJ has had the #1 PK in the league for a while with him being a part of that and bringing in that experience to MTL's pretty putrid PK) and PPs both 2nd units effectively, will chip in 15 goals on the 4th line, and plays with speed but also a physical edge.

Both guys are on expiring contracts. Sorensen's 1.5mil is being HALF retained for only 750k. He's on a contract year in a tight market and will be looking to prove he's due for a raise, especially with the time off to heal and practice before the season he's getting overseas. That's excellent value. Plus you're getting a 2nd round pick player Gambrell who has a very similar playing style to Armia plus a 3rd rounder. Both those variables cover the downgrade while MTL still gets their bottom-sixer on the left side they need. This trade makes sense, dunno why it's hard to concede that.

Guess that's to be expected with Habs fans but I was really hoping you guys here on CapFriendly would find a good lesson after what happened with the Domi/Anderson swap but nOOooOooo guess not... 😉</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs4ever</b></div><div>While I agree Habs may look to move Armia, as he is definitely not a 4th liner. The return you offer is not that great. Both players are average.</div></div>

Habs should keep Byron and Armia for now, and try to unload Weal and Kulak and replace them with $700,000/$900,000 a year players, Fleury or Poehling or sign UFA Gauthier to a one-year, two-way deal as 13th forward. Armia could still play top 6 if Toffoli plays LW
