According to the official nhl website, Sandin is 24, birthday march 7. Liljegren is gonna be 25 in 3 days. Sure they are the same age, for 3 days. The Sandin trade also happened when he was 22…
Liljegren has been outrageously bad in a top 4 role this season lol

Liljegren just turned 25. Sandin was 22 at the time of the trade. Shows your hockey knowledge there.
Liljegren play top 4 minutes, but boy is he bad in those minutes. Sandin was mostly playing bottom pairing minutes, but he was good in those

Free Agent Splashes to Be Competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Can't see any reason Lily would be worth less than Sandy. Being right handed should mean a better return.
Would look like:
2 early 2nds (top 40), both in same year
late 1st + late 2nd (dif years)
Besides, it isn't just a value issue. Why would the Leafs do this? How does this help them? We have been looking for RHD for years and now you want to jettison the homegrown one for picks?</div></div>
There’s one huge reason, age. Liljegren is 25 while Sandin was 22. Both are pretty much the same talent, but Sandin can actually develop in something more. Liljegren won’t improve unless there’s a massive surprise. The best trade comp is Siegenthaler to New Jersey for a third, so Toronto would be lucky to get a late second for him

NYI Trade in summer
I said it multiple times, I love Reichel and I would be open to trade Winnipeg’s pick, Calgary’s pick and RHP/Heineman for him. I value Barron as more valuable than Calgary’s pick, so I would be open to add a second and RHP/Heineman to the deal

McTavish was a massive reach at 5 (bigger than Reinbacher). Reinbacher has looked like a solid pick so far. You can’t ignore that.
The difference between them is probably our first this year, who should be 5th OA, and Winnipeg’s first

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Yeah there would have to be a package that can improve us now. But usually the example of the young guy traded like that is when he’s hitting RFA. Holtz is still an ELC so I’d expect him (and this applies to Guhle to) to stay put for at least 1 more year.
Again, if we can turn Holtz+Bahl into for example Marcus Pettersson+Colton, you’d have me sold in a heartbeat.
You said Winnipeg 1st+2nd+3rd for Holtz? Or just 1st+2nd
If we could do Winnipeg 1st+3rd for Pettersson I’d be happy
And then like Bahl+2nd for Colton.
Not something I’ve thought about.
Maybe Holtz for Winnipeg 1st+3rd+Evans assuming we can make those other deals

Yeah I think you’d have me sold in that scenario</div></div>
Colton didn’t have a great season so you would get him for cheaper than what they paid. Only Bahl would be enough.
The third is a minor asset in any deal including a first so it’s not really important if we add one or not

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Well for Holtz specifically NJD would not be willing to take a Newhook type package unless we could do something similar to what Colorado did flipping the pick for a more win now piece like Colton.
I cannot speak on the availability of other guys like Reichel or Hayton (but i don’t Utah and Chicago would be trying to move their youth)
Again, I 100% agree that MTL shouldn’t trade Guhle.
But if they did decide that they wanted to roll with Struble Harris Xhekaj Hutson and Matheson on the left and move the guy with the most trade value in Guhle, NJD imo should/would offer Holtz+2025 1st for Guhle+2025 2nd/3rd (conditional based on where the 2025 pick lies)</div></div>
Who said the Devils wouldn’t want a Newhook package. Nobody would have guessed the Avs would have wanted that package for Newhook. If the devils can acquire a first and second for Newhook, then trade those assets for Chychrun or another great D, nobody in Newark would complain.
A lot of Yotes fans saw Hayton gone for around a second, and for Reichel, we never know about the Hawks
As for the LD problem, Guhle and Harris can play RD. If Hutson performs at TC, Struble will be send down, vice-versa. We will have 8 nhl D, wich is well enough to have a roster while starting to look at the market for Matheson and Harris
Only way you would get us to trade Guhle is with Mercer +

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Because Alex Holtz is 22 years old and makes 900k.
List of coaches who loved Holtz: Andrew Brunette
List of coaches who have disliked Holtz: Lindy Ruff, Travis Green
I know who I'd put my money on being right.
Holtz has his defensive struggles. You will find nobody denying that. NJD wasn't a team not trying to win that could afford to give minutes to youth over veterans. Montreal is a team like that.
There is no problem you can't see. Holtz made some bad turnovers and was the whipping boy who got it blown out of proportion while NJD opted to give more "safe" players ice time.
Newhook has been quite good 5v5. I've been very impressed with him. (They didn't like him in colorado).
Gallagher is frankly better than most of MTLs forwards 5v5. Other than Suzuki, Caufield, Newhook, and Slaf, no other forward MTL has was better than Gallagher.
Also Gallagher is a volume guy, Holtz is a sniper. They aren't the same role.
Again, this isn't to say that this trade isn't an underpayment. I'd say, IF MTL decides that guys like Xhekaj, Struble, Harris are part of the future, drop the 1st going to NJD and make it a 2nd.
That would be valuing Guhle as 1st+1st+3rd.
But I believe MTL should simply keep Guhle.</div></div>
We can get so many better options than Holtz. If we want young guys, we could get Hayton or Reichel without costing us Guhle. If we want 5v5 production, we can just trade a fifth for Foegele.
When you change a coach, you want changes. I can’t really believe the new coach refuses to make tge change every fan wanted just because he didn’t like the player.
There are a lot of players better than Gallagher on our roster. Apart from the guys you named, Dach, Roy, Evans and Armia are better.
That still leaves with the same question: Why would we ever trade a top 4 D for a third liner? Why not just trade a Newhook package for him, since it’s his value

Even if it’s 5v5, it’s still not the right stats. Newhook is the best habs player in ES pts/60.
That leves us with another question : why would we want Holtz if the only thing he can do somewhat good is ES and we have Gallagher (Fourth liner next year btw) who does a similar job, while being better defensively. Not even mentionning he clearly has a problem in his play or attitude that we don’t see…

First of all, you’re wrong about most of these numbers

Roy : 1,93
Matheson : 1,78
Holtz : 1,76
Gallagher : 1,75

Pezzetta : 1,51
Mercer : 1,4
That prove 2 things. 1. Old ass Gallagher is around the same as Holtz. 2. You need to double check your stats. Moneypuck is a good way.
And that kinda prove a point. Devils’ management doesn’t like Holtz, wich can only lower his value. There is clearly something we don’t know. Oh, and don’t blame it on Ruff, as since he is gone, he didn’t get that much more ice time and his production completely stopped
By your logic, Mercer for Pezzetta would be fair?

Guhle has 6 less pts in 12 less games. He is a defensive D. Holtz is an offensive only forward. How can you possibly think a mid second is the difference between them lol. Remive Guhle and LA’s first and add Pittsburgh’s second + highest third we have then it would be a fair deal

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>1. Savard with retention has some value, but certainly not at full price. With the flooded winger market I doubt anyone would trade for Mangiapane without retention either.
3. Dvorak has literally never gotten 40 points once, at least be accurate in saying Mangiapane averages 45 points with almost no PP time.
4. Ignoring PP time again, Teravainen only had 26 EV points this year. The 3rd line would make you 7th-9th in average ice time among forwards, which Mangiapane was 4th-6th
3M max? You are on drugs 🤣 he is very fairly paid right now.
Mangiapane is not at all what Montreal needs right now and hell, they probably need Savard more until their young blue line develops into legitimate defensemen but to you are very poorly describing him as a player</div></div>
Savard is worth 3m easily lol. Without retention he gets at least a third
Dvorak literally only has 2 seasons with a sub 40 pts pace
Terravainen don’t play a lot more on the pp

1. Savard at 3.5M and a 3rd is hardly considered positive value
2. Mangiapane makes less than 6M
3. Mangiapane is being 25% retained in that proposal which would be cap hit of 4.35M
4. Calling Mangiapane a 3rd liner is quite ignorant, he's a middle 6er with a strong 2-way game and would still make ~6M on the open market, just like Terravainen will get this summer. He would also be 4th in even strength scoring on the Habs this season only behind their 1st line.</div></div>
1. Savard and a third is positive value
2. Sorry about a 200k difference
3. He is a 40 pts winger. You know who else average 40 pts pace each seasons while making 4,4m, Christian Dvorak
4. Terravainen has multiple 60 and 1 70 pts season under his belt, Mangiapane has nowhere close to that. Also, the third line is in the middle six if you didn’t know.
On the open market, Mangiapane would get 3m max. So he is very overpaid
