Wallstedt isn't ready yet and lets be honest, Flower is a GREAT veteran backup with leadership.

I love Flower, but this seems rich for a guy who's been pretty mid this year. Minnesota needs all the money they can get too. Good mentor for Wallstedt I guess

love flower, was hoping for a cheaper contract not gonna lie. But bill Guerin might be the worst GMs in the league contract wise so its not much of a surprise. (ok maybe Lou is worse).

Are there any other records he can break by playing another year? genuine question...

They were never going to be the most active team this summer, since most of their roster is pretty well set and they'll need to start thinking about Faber and Rossi's extensions the year after which will eat up a large chunk of the buyout dead cap they get back. Extending Zuccarello, Hartman, and Foligno so early gave them clarity on what they'll need next year with some space for a couple rookies to fight for a spot. They'll probably just be in on any bargain 1 year deals the week after free agency opens.

Funny. I figured he would want to finish his career with a contender. Oh well, I guess the Wild will have a familiar face to announce their first overall pick when they win the lottery next year

He can move up to 2nd for games played and minutes played, that seems to be about it.

They still got two more years of 14mil in dead cap, couldn't have seen them very active this summer anyway, especially with a pretty weak crop of UFAs.

He's not been great, but that familiarity with Flower is a bonus while Wallstedt continues to grow.

Haha the wild get the first overall....I want that kool-aid you're drinking. The Wild will finish in the middle of the pack again next year end up somewhere between the 13th - 20th pick again.

Happy to bring him back for one more season but really wish he would've taken a discount at like $1-1.5M.

What would that have realistically enabled?

$1M in extra cap space. IDK what we would've spent it on (if anything, we could've also just pocketed it) but it's better to have the cap space just in case than not.

Any team that finishes in the bottom 11 has a chance to get the first overall pick. The best they can do this year is 3rd overall (they have a 4.3% chance), but they don't need to decline much farther to have a mathematical chance at #1 next year.

This is a poor deal given their cap space, but probably fine if they really wanted the veteran leadership for a year. Fleury has been bad this year, and has been okay to poor the two years prior. He's a hall of famer. And he's had great length of career. But he's not giving 2.5 mil on the ice and for a team with a tight cap, not ideal
