I was hoping for a Top Prospect and at least something extra for the retention

I hope Conroy knows what he’s doing and considers buying something, cause our defence has become extremely weak all of a sudden

If you take away:

1. Teams that didn't want him (NY, NSH, CAR, COL, PHI, DAL)
2. Teams without a 2024 1st (TB, FLO, VAN, EDM)
3. Teams keeping it, maybe for another deal (BOS, DET, LA)
4. Teams Hanifin didn't want to resign (TOR, WPG)

I guess only Vegas was left.

Honestly, this seems pretty fair to me since at this time the deal appears to be for a rental. Vegas could still extend him, but they are taking on the risk of that not happening as part of the deal, so they have justification to keep the price lower.

The picks will either be a Late 1st + 2nd, or a mid-round 1st and a 3rd. That sounds like a fair deal for a high-end rental. I just think the talking heads got the Calgary faithful a bit too excited about potential returns. If the kid was only willing to extend in Tampa and that was leaked, then they were never going to get a good return from the outset.

Looks to me like they’re working on another trade that they think might require them to give up that pick. Maybe they already made a deal with Pittsburgh before this trade was completed, and they’re just looking for a third team to retain 25% on Guentzel before they can make it official.

Interesting that they said March 10 when the deadline is March 8. Isn’t March 10 the day that Guentzel is eligible to come off LTIR? I don’t think that makes him exempt from having to be traded before the deadline though.

Conroy might just be a bad GM. He should be thankful Chayka and Fenton are still in fairly recent memory so he can't hit the absolute bottom tier.
