I’d do it if I were them. A buyout is $10.5mm in cap space spread over 6 years. That’s worth a lot to a cap team trying to win a cup. Pick number 29-32 doesn’t often end up being an impact player. And Holloway remains a project.

Jets politely reject. If we're trading for a dman for the cup run it needs to be someone good enough to push schmidt out of the lineup. Don't think kova is that guy. We'd need a guy like tanev, walker, potentially dumba. Savard fits the bill but we don't need the 2nd year which crosses him off the list. Jets don't need depth dmen they need nhl dman to make schmidt the depth dman

The peak of the buyout is 2.6 million against a most likely 90 million dollar cap. It's mostly gonna be at around 1.5 million, is it worth a 25'1st to dump, yeah probably but definitely not Holloway. He is finally starting to find his stride and will be a big part of our middle six over the next 2-3 years. If we have any playoff success him and his cap hit will be a big part of that

Do you have the 1st round pick required to get the guys you’re suggesting? I guess you could offer multiple picks though. Depth is important. Injuries happen. You could always do both. Winnipeg can win this year, if I were you I’d go all in.

Canes have no interest in Allen, even more-so if that is what Montreal is going to be delusional enough to demand.

Tanev is rumored at a 2nd and asset and walker is a 1st but that price may move down closer to deadline. If both fall through dumba is sitting right there and if all 3 are gone I'm fine keeping what we have as heinola is already a depth dman and so is stanley. Jets currently have 8 capable nhl dmen and we lost one in chisholm just recently we don't need depth. We need someone to push schmidt to a 7th dman simple

It’s $10.5mm total in cap space. No need to try and sugar coat it. Cap space has value. If you don’t want to move Holloway, I get that. But no one is taking that contract for less than two late 1st rounders.

Reports suggest otherwise. Remains to be seen what his value in the market is right now, but commenters on this site consistently misunderstand goalie quality (and stats).

Well, no it's not exactly that at all. It's spread out amongst 5 years with most of it being under 2 million, you say 10.5 like we're paying him 5 million a year still. A buyout that's mostly under 2 million costs a late first round pick to move, which Edmonton has. If it was around 3 million a year then yeah it would be two firsts but no it never even gets that high it stays mostly around 1.75 million.

Primeau is an AHL caliber goalie, he’s not worth a 3rd

Allen is an overpaid backup level goalie. He’s worth at most a mid round pick with full retention. With no retention maybe a 5th

Columbus isn’t gonna retain that much for a late 1st

Anaheim isn’t a fit for Harris, they have enough LHD

Savard is straight up bad now. Considering he has an extra year at 3.5M I’d be shocked if you got a 1st for him

PPG in ~100 games over the previous two seasons and has only played 18 games this season. we're definitely nowhere near dump him for nothing territory considering we have plenty of cap space and we're not trying to win right now. we'll continue to remain invested in what he could be for us until such a time that he stands in the way of us winning when it's time to win.

Reports like how the Canes have pulled out of the goalie market since Freddie is coming back, or the outdated reports Carolina were only going to enter the market for a starting netminder? Get lost. Keep Allen, and this is a ridiculous amount to ask for for Allen

Columbus will not retain 13 million for a first. That retention alone is probably worth a 1st + 2nd, not to mention getting Laine himself.

And when you add all those numbers together, it makes $10.5mm in total, yes. So divide that by 6, and you get the average amount of waste per year.
