There's room to keep most of the forward group minus Turbo unless he takes a super team friendly deal. Chatfield (if resigned) won't cost too much and can play a top 4 role. Orlov replaces Skjei on the 2nd pair with Chatfield. Morrow is on the bottom pair with more than likely a shutdown left-handed vet UFA. It can be done- Necas only gets moved if he brings back an upgrade on the wing for the top-6.

So trading up from late 1st rounder to 5th OA costs a 70 point 25-year-old RFA AND a B prospect? Also, why would Carolina want/need to trade up when they're in Win Now mode with a good pipeline already?

It’s not like svech is out here producing PPG numbers and he’s not good defensively.
Frederic gives you all around solid play and is physical and holtz could help replace the whole left behind goal scoring wise. Also Carolina is gonna be tight to the cap for this season so 2 cheaper players would massively help so they could still try to fill out the rest of the team with good depth</div></div>
Dude's recovering from a massive knee injury, he's not getting traded unless you drastically overpay. On top of his age, ability, and current contract value, he's a favorite of the owner, its not gonna happen.

Continuing to scream "Montreal and Carolina aren't good trade partners" into the void until Necas signs long term somewhere.
Also, that's not close value either, but not the point

Thank you - even if you removed the Aho - KK offersheet history, Carolina would only want to move Necas for a roster upgrade, and Montreal isn't looking to move any of the players that Carolina would consider in that move. These two teams just aren't a good match for this kind of deal.

Staal for Kampf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>I thought it was a deal signed after the player turned 35</div></div>
I thought so too, but apparently its slightly more complicated. So if its an extension signed when they are 34, but they turn 35 before June 30th of the first year of that contract, its a 35+ contract. Here's the blub from the CBA FAQs page here:
"A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).
35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors"

Staal for Kampf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>It's a 35+ deal, so it would. It doesn't matter how old he is when it's signed, it matters when the season starts, will he turn 35 before the end of that NHL year (July 1st). I could see Staal waiving to go to what was probably his boyhood team</div></div>
Actually I think he's right - I believe the rule is 35 by the date of June 30th of the upcoming season, and with Jordans September birthday his extension isnt at 35+
EDIT: but I wouldn't trade Jordan for Kampf, he's gotta full NMC and will retire a Cane

What can Drury cook this offseason other than pizza
I could absolutely see Carolina doing a deal like this during the offseason to replace UFA defensemen. I don't hate it, but I think they'll pursue a RHD as opposed to Lindgren as that is a bigger need than a LHD with Slavin and Orlov already signed.

Ward had a good playoff and they won the cup. Gerber was the stud that season. And you throwing out Darling, who played 8 games for the hurricanes under Rod makes no sense.
Should Carolina get a goalie to play in a tandem with Kochetkov, yes I think they should, but it wont be an expensive one. I like Saros, but the Canes aren't trading Necas for him.

I will readily admit I'm higher on Necas than the average Canes fan, but trading him for a goalie for a season and a half doesn't make sense. Carolina doesn't put that level of value into the goaltending position.

See I disagree, I think a Blackwood/Kochetkov tandem would be fine if not pretty good, and I have more confidence in that pair than Kochetkov/Raanta or Kochetkov/Martin.
I like this deal for Carolina.

Fix it
I like Saros, I do - but that feels like a lot to give up for him. Maybe I'm just high on Nadeau, but thats three firsts for a goalie not having a great season right now and only signed for one year after this one.
And I'd rather keep Chatfield in the lineup and not to the Tanev trade.

Would CAR be interested 24-25
Including Necas in a trade for a goalie would be seen as an overpayment by the org. They don't give up high value assets or money for goaltending. Arb isnt enough to move Necas unless you're getting a similarly aged and skill forward back (ex. he was offered for a potential Tkachuk trade summer 2022).

"great deal long term" 8 year nearly 5 mill per for a bottom 6 player loooool</div></div>
Yeah, the team was playing horrific defense at the start of the season, thats why his stats in those 6 games aren't good. Its okay, you can say you haven't seen the team, but saying he was horrific before missing significant time with a bloodclot issue is glossing over a large portion of the story.
And who said trading KK for Boone was a columbus loss? Getting the younger locked up guy who is just as good is a loss? Huh?

This is a bit of an overpay, but not by that much. These pieces don't really help columbus that much anyway. Depth they're full of, and late round picks, they already have a deep pool. I think they'd want quality player/prospect over quantity.</div></div>
Its a crazy overpay - you're aware that Freddie has been out all season right? Why would the Canes trade their starting goalie, a 23 year old center locked up on a great deal long term, and futures for Boone Jenner? We have Boone Jenner at home (Jordan Staal)

what a Saros to CAR trade would look like
It would take far more for Carolina to consider moving Nikishin.
I like Saros, but I don't think Carolina would be willing to pay the price it would take to acquire him, and I really don't see any Necas move happening until the offseason- with the lean being towards him re-signing.
