Flames Burn it to the Ground

Équipe: 2023-24 Flames de Calgary
Date de création initiale: 20 janv. 2024

Description
There will be a bit of ugly in Calgary's future with this, but not as much as folks might think given that some of the new acquisitions (Podkolzin, possibly Grosev) are ready to play pro hockey. Plus in two years they will have a ton of cap space.
Transactions
1.
CGY
  1. Kuzmenko, Andrei (1 500 000 $ retained)
  2. Podkolzin, Vasily
  3. Willander, Tom [Liste de réserve]
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
Canucks win the Lindholm sweepstakes and sign him to an extension along the lines of the one Horvat signed with the Islanders. They also give up Willander and a likely late first, but they move on from Kuzmenko and Podkolzin, two players that have struggled in Vancouver, as well.
VAN
  1. Lindholm, Elias (850 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
The first of a series of deals that will turn over the roster. Calgary has a seller's market with Lindholm and they take full advantage of it. They play the likes of Vancouver, Colorado, Boston, Toronto and one or two others off of each other before taking the Canuck's offer.
2.
CGY
  1. Kuznetsov, Evgeny (1 800 000 $ retained)
  2. Suzdalev, Alexander
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (WSH)
Détails additionnels:
Washington is in a dogfight for the wildcard and badly needs goals. Kuzmenko is one season removed from 30+ and never got on with Tocchet in Vancouver. A change of scenery and a coach specializing in offense maybe unlocks him again. The Caps give up their first rounder, Suzdalev and get out from under the lodestone that is Evgeni Kuznetzov for a modest retention fee.
WSH
  1. Kuzmenko, Andrei (2 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Andrei Kuzmenko we hardly knew ya. The Flames flip him to a team in desperate need of goals. Calgary picks up another 1st and a bruising forward with hands on a bit of a runway as well as an asset to possibly flip next year.
3.
CGY
  1. Karpovich, Daniil [Liste de réserve]
  2. Tierney, Chris
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (NJD)
  4. Choix de 5e ronde en 2026 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
Acquiring Hanifan allows Marino to move to his natural right side and pushes Nimec, a rookie, down in the rotation. When Hamilton returns it means Miller is your 7th which is not a bad option to have.

The 5th is CoDB to further wash Hanifan's cap hit through Anaheim to reduce it further. Tierney is in the deal to allow the Devils the necessary cap space beyond that to make it.
NJD
  1. Hanifin, Noah (2 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
The second of Calgary's UFAs to be to go. The Flames get another top 32 pick a journeyman 4th liner and a big toolsy LHD on a runway.
4.
CGY
  1. Groshev, Maxim
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (TBL)
Détails additionnels:
It seems every year the Bolts make a deal to try to stave off the closing of their window of contention and hollow out their pipeline even more. This year, it's Tanev.
TBL
  1. Tanev, Christopher
Détails additionnels:
The value in this deal is Groshev, another one of those 'found under a rock' wingers from the Bolt's pipeline. The third is another dart to throw at the board, albeit a decent one.
5.
CGY
  1. Benn, Jamie (1 000 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (DAL)
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2026 (DAL)
Détails additionnels:
Dallas gets a winger seven years younger than Benn who has been just as productive in a less talented lineup for their cup run and beyond.
DAL
  1. Mangiapane, Andrew
Détails additionnels:
Calgary leverages it's new found cap space to grab a pair of draft assets and import instant culture change. They can go one of two ways next season. They can either re-sign Benn at a low rent retirement deal and let him show the kids how to be professionals (under no circumstances do you want Kadri as the strongest personality in the room), or failing that they can turn him into a playoff rental like Kuznetzov.
6.
CGY
  1. Dvorak, Jakub
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2026 (LAK)
Détails additionnels:
If nothing else LA gets a goalie younger than 30 it can dress on a nightly basis. But Vladar is decent netminder playing behind a team without the kind of consistent defensive structure that the Kings roll out night after night. He'd be a definite upgrade over Rittich and Copley and a decade younger than Talbot
LAK
  1. Vladar, Daniel
Détails additionnels:
Another draft asset and a big lefty defenseman prospect for the pipeline for a netminder who had not place in Calgary going forward.

Willander is not available.
Calgary has interest on Vancouver’s prospects but not Kuzmenko.

Take out Willander and the Canucks accept. Also if Kuzmenko held that much value the Canucks would just trade him themselves for a similar package.

Outrageous price for Lindholm. You are living on another planet if that's the type of return you are expecting

Not sure of the return the Flames will get for UFA this TDL. But either way it's a great opportunity for the Flames to retool and spend the new found cap wisely in the next few seasons, cause this group isn't cutting it. Too bad Flames and Trevling wasted 17.5m long term on Kadri and Huberdeau. Having that cap would have helped the Flames even more.

It was in 32T this week that Flames won’t be looking for picks/prospects in return for their UFAs, but for NHL players.

Hahah I love it hey. Like can't even hide the homerism of his proposal. One trade when you're acquiring a guy he's worth nothing but then when you trade him he's worth a 1st ++. Usually OPs make terrible proposals but they don't often out themselves as certifiably delusional all in one post.

Canucks didn’t draft Willander at 11OA just to move him one season later. He’s off the table and Quinn Hughes future pair. Him and Lekkerimäki are the only pre-ELC guys off the table.

Also, I like Hanifin and while I think it’s more than fair, instead of a mid rounder, you get a late round pick and Karpovich. I don’t know how aggressive the Devils are going to be at the deadline.

Canucks easily decline. Willander is not available under any circumstances. They also wouldn’t have interest in extending Lindholm. They dealt Horvat because they didn’t want an $8M 3C, and Lindholm would be the exact same thing. Not to mention the fact that they wouldn’t give up that much, if you’re comparing Lindholm to Horvat extending then you are looking at the same return Horvat got, and this is far more than that.
