Of course, a team with a ridiculous team name pays to pick up Tatar. At least it's on brand.

SEA adds yet another top 9 winger to its roster, weird

But maybe he's worth a try due to the injuries to Schwartz and Burakovsky

Hope Tatar can get his game back! He’s looked out of place in Colorado.

Makes me wonder how soon Colorado will make another move.

Seems pretty fair, though I like this from COLs side since they essentially signed a UFA and flipped him for a pick

A 5th round draft pick only has a 1 in 3 chance of playing a single game in the NHL and less than half that chance to play more than 200. Tatar will almost certainly play more games for Seattle this season than the draft pick will play for Colorado. Seattle wins.

That's about what I'd pay for Tatar at this stage in his career.

FWIW, it's also what Beauvillier and Lafferty were traded for recently.

Fair deal.

Tbh, I felt Tatar was trending upwards and now I'm really sad that he got traded. But hey, it didn't work out. Wishing Tatar the best in Seattle

Seems like a fair trade from my perspective. Colorado gets an asset for a player who wasn't fitting in their system for whatever reason. Seattle needs a scoring boost with much of the depth scoring that helped them roll four lines last season MIA and guys like Burakovsky and Schwartz injured. Tatar throughout his career has primarily served as a scoring threat, so hopefully he can provide that for the Kraken and help them move up the standings. If Seattle winds up selling at the deadline anyway, they could probably recoup the pick they traded for him.

Tatar played real well in NJ last year (his first year was so-so). In 2021-22, NJD relied more on speed in North-South game. In 2022-23, Brunette’s system added more East-West in possession, which better-suited Tatar’s game. I had thought he would have done well in Colorado, but not sure how they used him.

He is a good middle-six winger for possession style system or someone looking for improvement in 5v5 controlled entries. Hope Seattle works out for him.

Seattle could use the offense even if they are out off the playoffs picture.

Colorado is saving pennies to adress their depth problem eventually. I'm sure they would had included Drouin for free.

you know you can trade picks for players right. for a guy as good as tatar. (this is a good exemple) flawed analys! picks are more than draft position!

It's a "free asset" for the Avs who need draft picks and not a big lose on the current roster. Not so much to use it but for future moves and/or salary cap retention in trades.

With Tufte, Kiviranta, and Meyers able to fill in at forward when needed until the TDL I think we'll probably accrue the cap space (using ACSL).

Avs is using LTIR money the whole season, not possible to accrue cap space.

Tatar wins. Colorado pays a price in unnecessary draft pick. Seattle has nothing to loose.

Yamo is producing on the top PP in Seattle so it's certainly possible! Yamo was as much a ghost in Edmonton at the end of his time there as Tatar in Colorado.

Which is why the Oilers should be looking to move their depth for picks (Foegele) and acquire rentals in turn for the top 6 (Barabanov). And, let guys like Holloway and Hamblin have a role in the bottom 6.

Lookup ACSL, they can; especially moving out Tatar's $1.5 hit

CapFriendly says no, for the moment at least. Currently no teams are accruing cap space.

From what I understand Avs would need to remove about another million from the current roster to be able to accrue cap space. With the first LTIR being Landy's 7 million it's not likely Avs will accrue any cap space this season. Or I could be completely off.

Thought Tuna would fit like a glove in Colorado. Unfortunately he didn't pan out there, but Seattle really feels like a team that can get the most out of him. I think this is relatively fair granted the circumstances, but Seattle gets some good value here

ACSL is really difficult to calculate from the outside with Landeskog being on LTIR from the start of the season and Francouz/Lehkonen going on later. We would need more than just a daily cap calculator; we'd need more details from the NHL. In theory they could be doing it. So if the Tatar move isn't offset by another immediately then this is a "tell" that they might be accruing for the TDL.
